Poni said the game ball should go to Neal Brown because of his coward mistake of punting the ball on 4th and short at midfield in the 4th quarter. Chris said yesterday that Brown will be one of the first major college football coaches fired this year and last night was one of the nails in the coffin. The guys said Brown blew the game in a huge rivalry, but they hope, for Pitt’s sake, that he’s still coaching when the Panthers head to Morgantown next year.

Former Pitt football coach Walt Harris joined the show. Walt said this is a matchup you have to make sure to cross your T’s and dot your I’s in preparation. Walt talked about how much history there is with this rivalry and some of his memories of the game. The guys asked Walt about how he would approach this game today if he was one of the head coaches. Walt talked about rivalries in college football and why the games should be played every single season. Walt compared Kenny Pickett to new Pitt QB Kedon Slovis – saying he’s excited for Slovis, but ended it with “there’s only one Kenny Pickett.” He said rushing the passer will be a key in this game. Chris asked Walt how he would handle being the team with a target on their back heading into the season – he said he would love it because it means he has a winning program and winning players. Walt picked Pitt to get the win tonight by a score of 28-10. 

Former Pitt QB Max Browne, now a PAC 12 analyst, joined the show. Max broke down the two QBs facing off tonight, both coming from USC, Kedon Slovis and JT Daniels. Max talked about what to expect from each one tonight in their first game with their new teams. He got into how the offenses will be different than what they worked with in the PAC 12. Max talked about the coaching changes each QB has experienced and how the new scenery will work out for them. Max expects Daniels has the better game of the QBs tonight, but Pitt will win the game.  

Former WVU QB Rasheed Marshall joined the show. Rasheed talked about what comes with the Backyard Brawl and how he felt about the F-bomb from Kedon Slovis towards WVU. Rasheed wants this to be played every single year and loves that the game is kicking off the season instead of late in the year. Rasheed believes the report that there will be 75% WVU fans inside Acrisure Stadium. Rasheed predicted a 24-17 WVU win.

Jeff said it’s a great sign for rivalries in college football and we should get them every single year. Jeff gave another solid review of Malik Reed, which we have heard from pretty much everyone. Not quite the same about Jesse Davis, who Jeff said is there for insurance. Jeff reacted to a Jeremy Fowler report that the Steelers had interest in trading for a guard before they acquired Davis. Do they have less faith in left guard than they do in left tackle? Jeff talked about how Mason Rudolph has handled everything this offseason and if the Steelers will find a trade partner for the third string QB.

Has the hope of a Mason Rudolph trade gone away? Do the Steelers have the fear they will need him this year? How should Rudolph feel about it? Poni thinks Rudolph is pissed off and still wants out, but the Steelers won’t grant his wishes. Poni went as far to say that Rudolph will blame the Steelers when he retires for why his pro career didn’t turn out. The Steelers-Lions preseason game had higher ratings than any NBA Christmas game last year. The guys talked about how pointless it was for the Steelers stars to play at all in that game, let alone a whole half. Chris said there should be a rule change to help defensive players since the league has added so many to accommodate offensive players. 

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. To start, Mike, the WV native, gave his final thoughts on the Backyard Brawl. He expects his Mountaineers to “get their asses kicked.” Mike isn’t shocked that there are projections of WVU to have a heavy fan presence tomorrow night. Mike isn’t high on the Steelers new offensive lineman, Jesse Davis and said he was available for a reason. He said a Mason Rudolph trade still isn’t out of the question based on what some other teams around the league have down with the quarterback position. Poni asked why the Steelers didn’t take the chance on Alex Leatherwood – Mike said the Steelers may have made a waiver claim, but that news isn’t out there right now, and the Bears claimed Leatherwood. Mike talked about cut blocks around the league and why a play that looks illegal and dirty is still OK around the league. At last, Mike gave a Backyard Brawl score prediction – Pitt 34, WVU 13.
