Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada had a one-on-one with (the great one) Jeff Hathhorn. The guys did a live listen and react.  

Diontae Johnson is continuing his hold-in. Last night, another WR got a big deal when DK Metcalf signed a 3-year extension with Seattle for over $72 million. The guys discussed the Steelers receiver room and what they have in the other guys behind Johnson. George Pickens is the player both guys are looking out to as Johnson’s eventual replacement. The guys are glad they aren’t dishing out big money to a receiver and want to see it used elsewhere. 

Former Steeler Arthur Moats joined the show. Arthur said he’s not stunned with what’s happening at training camp so far with Mason Rudolph looking like the best quarterback early on. He said he’s been there and dealt with the offensive play calling so he has that early advantage. Arthur said Kenny Pickett shouldn’t worry a lot about his early mistakes and just has to keep grinding away. He wants to see how Mitch Trubisky responds to the adversity of a QB battle. He explained that the first few days of training camp are just like OTA’s and there isn’t much took into right now, but that changes as they get into next week. He gave his thoughts on the Diontae Johnson hold-in and if the Steelers are behind the decision. Arthur got into some of the other position battles, like Kendrick Green versus Kevin Dotson at left guard. The guys asked what he expects out of Devin Bush this year to keep Robert Spillane from passing him on the depth chart.

93.7 The Fan host Dorin Dickerson joined the show. Dorin is starting his new role with The Fan Morning Show this Monday. Dorin shared his excitement to join the show full-time. He talked about the preparation side of things and how he will handle some late nights with games and events, then waking up before dawn every morning. Dorin shared his dishwasher story that led to the death of one and the arrival of another later this week. Chris also got Dorin’s thoughts on the start of Steelers training camp. He also had thoughts on the Cam Heyward-Ben Roethlisberger back and forth.

Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve said what Diontae Johnson is worth to the Steelers and what he would grant on the open market. He said looking in the $20 million range presents a challenge because he may not be a top 20 receiver in the league. Steve gave his projection of Johnson this year in the post-Ben Roethlisberger era. He talked about the shortcomings of Johnson, but said he doesn’t go too hard on him for the drops. He said elite guys don’t have real weaknesses. Steve dove into Jeremy McNichols, who the Steelers just signed, but said he’s likely RB3 instead of a backup at this point. In the same realm, Chris asked Steve about Benny Snell at this stage in his career. On the offensive line, Steve labeled Kendrick Green as “intriguing” saying he may have more potential than Kevin Dotson in the battle for guard. Steve thinks there is a chance the Browns make a push for Jimmy Garoppolo if they get bad news on Deshaun Watson that could impact the majority of their season. Steve said corner back is the biggest question mark on the defensive side, but made mention of key players at each level of the unit. “Tuitt is a much better player” was Steve’s response to being asked if Larry Ogunjobi is a better player than Stephon Tuitt, who he described as “fantastic.” Chris asked Steve what is in store for Alex Highsmith in ’22-’23, saying he could provide double digit sacks.
