93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Josh was coming from day three of Steelers OTAs. He commented on the absence of Diontae Johnson. Chase Claypool said it was important to be there for himself, but wasn’t worried about the presence of Johnson, saying he was somewhere working out on his own. Josh said Mitch Trubisky has been the best looking QB so far in camp. He described Trubisky as “comfortable” and said he won’t make the decision easy between himself and Kenny Pickett as QB1. He would lean toward Trubisky to be the starter for week one. Josh is impressed by George Pickens and said it will be tough for the coaches to keep him off the field. He said DeMarvin Leal will probably contribute right away, especially if we don’t see Stephon Tuitt. Josh made mention of how much bigger Najee Harris looks, specifically the lower body and compared him to backs like Adrian Peterson and Derrick Henry. A few of the undrafted running backs are catching eyes at camp too.

He said Kevin Colbert isn’t going anywhere and it is similar to what the Ravens have done with Ozzie Newsome. He thinks the team is in great hands with Khan. He said Khan is familiar with how things are in the organization because he’s been around for a while. He commented on Brandon Hunt and his future, saying he could very well end up with another team.

He said Antonio Brown is still a great player and spoke highly of him. Bruce also talked about his relationship with Ben Roethlisberger.

He said the Eagles could have interest in Brandon Hunt from the Steelers, but isn’t sure if they will pull the old one-for-one move.

He confirmed that James Daniels is working on the middle of the offensive line with Mason Cole and Kevin Dotson. Jeff said he, like many, are mesmerized by Najee Harris’ size heading into his second season. Jeff talked about the Steelers new hires in the front office and how Omar Khan and Andy Weidl will work together.

The Steelers have made a GM hire. Omar Khan has officially been named to the position. Poni isn’t huge on the move because Khan isn’t an X’s and O’s expert and it gives Mike Tomlin more power in the building. Chris thinks Kevin Colbert is the wild card because nobody knows how much or how little he will play a factor into the future. Chris added that Khan is an all-time Art Rooney guy, which likely played a factor in the hire.

He said even with the addition to Andy Weidl to the front office, it doesn’t automatically mean the end of Brandon Hunt’s time with the team. He expects Khan to have input, but he will be more of a business GM, which wouldn’t be the first time that is done in the NFL. The guys asked Richie about what kind of relationship Khan has with Mike Tomlin. He thinks Tomlin would have the final say when it comes to draft picks in the future.

Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo joined the show. Ray said he’s buying into what Cam Heyward is saying regarding the future of Stephon Tuitt. Ray believes Tuitt will show up for mandatory workouts in a few weeks. Ray talked about Diontae Johnson, who was also a no-show at OTAs. He said Johnson is more likely to show up at OTAs, but the team probably wasn’t very surprised to not see Johnson today.
