Penguins insider Rob Rossi joined the show. Rob expects a big game from Evgeni Malkin in the absence of Sidney Crosby with a chance to close the series out. He thought Geno looked good in Game 5 before the Crosby injury. Now in Sid’s absence, Rob likes Malkin matched with the first line wingers. Rob said, with confidence, that Crosby has a concussion and isn’t sure what his status will be going forward. Rob expects Kris Letang to have an offensive type game. He said Malkin and Letang both know it could be their final home game in Pittsburgh if the series doesn’t finish their way. He said it’s a huge game for the future of Louis Domingue. He mentioned Adam Fox as a Rangers player to pay attention to. Rob predicted a win.

Then the conversation shifted to Pens-Rangers Game 6. The Pens have a chance to end the series at home. The guys gave their confidence level on if the Pens can get it down without Sidney Crosby on the ice. Both think a big game from Evgeni Malkin is ahead. Mike said today was the first time in a month that Tristan Jarry has seen 5-on-5 hockey in a live setting, so he doesn’t expect him to be ready for tonight or Sunday, but he isn’t completely ruling it out. Mike said there is amped importance on the Pens finishing the series tonight because of the questions that surround a potential Game 7 in New York.

He said what tomorrow means to Evgeni Malkin – and said he’s lucky to be playing because the NHL didn’t seem to mind his cross check to the face last night. Will Game 6 be the final home game for Evgeni Malkin? It could be if things go a certain way. The guys talked about Geno’s legacy and how he has to play tomorrow night in the expected absence of Sidney Crosby. Jeff said the morning skate will tell a lot of the story with health and thinks Malkin plays a great game without Sid. Jeff believes Geno has a chance to really show that he still has it.

Jeff gave an update on Tristan Jarry and gave his thoughts on the goalie situation. He said Jarry doesn’t look all that close to ready for a real game. He said with the series going the 6th game, it’s Louis Domingue’s net to lose and he wouldn’t put Jarry in with little room for error when he hasn’t played the entire series. The guys agreed that the best case scenario would be to put the series away tomorrow night and give the net to Jarry heading into the next round. Chris asked Jeff if he had a different feeling when Sidney Crosby got hurt even with the Pens up 2-0 on the scoreboard.
