Bob thinks the Pirates can be right around .500 and he isn’t sure how bad that will be in the NL Central – saying he has questions for a lot of the other teams in the division. The discussion flipped to the Steelers for a few minutes and the guys asked Pomp who the Steelers backup QB will be. Bob doesn’t see that Justin Fields trade happening. Chris chimed in with one last question in golf.

Hour 3: The Athletic published a piece about the Pirates earlier today. The 11-page report by Stephen Nesbitt and Ken Rosenthal dove into the last 20 years of the Pirates under Bob Nutting and everything their fans have had to deal with. Most of the article spoke to stuff most, if not all Pirates fans already know. The main passage the guys jumped to was when Neal Huntington asked for roughly $8M to upgrade the training facilities and Nutting told him it would come out of the budget that is allotted to signing players or extending ones they already had. The guys also discussed the loophole that the Pirates found in the draft that the league later took away – but how badly did that hurt their draft history? The Pirates los their step to continue innovating as a small-market team. The guys also discussed a couple of coaches that got let go after helping turn around promising players. 

Aditi Kinkhabwala from the NFL on CBS joined the show. Aditi loves the idea of an older, smart veteran QB that can truly help mold the mind of a young QB – she thinks that is exactly what Kenny Pickett needs. Among the names she threw out there was Jacoby Brissett. The guys asked Aditi what else Pickett needs to succeed in the offense. She said the Steelers have things to sort out – and Mullsy laid out a very interesting trade proposition involving Diontae Johnson.
