93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff talked about the report stating the Steelers won’t add any coaches to the offensive side of the ball. Jeff was hoping we would see somebody more inspiring than Mike Sullivan as the Steelers QB coach next season. Jeff thinks chances are close to zero that Mason Rudolph will be back unless he truly has nowhere else to go. Jeff talked about the possibility of Ryan Tannehill coming to Pittsburgh and how he would fit back in with Arthur Smith. The guys asked Jeff about the process the team went through when picking Smith to be the team’s OC. 

According to Gerry Dulac, the Steelers won’t be adding anyone else to the offensive staff – all of the jobs are taken. Do you trust guys like Pat Meyer and Mike Sullivan in their normal roles again next season? Chris said this decision falls firmly on Art Rooney if the Steelers do not add to the staff, despite him preaching about that the other day. 

Donny Football Debrief – I find the Senior Bowl practices more interesting than anything happening at the Pro Bowl this weekend. Is that weird? 

Aditi Kinkhabwala from the NFL on CBS joined the show. Aditi reacted to the Steelers hiring Arthur Smith as the offensive coordinator. She thinks this fits the Steelers and their mold because Mike Tomlin has done well with guys like Todd Haley and Mike Munchak, so we don’t have to freak out because it’s not an up-and-coming young mind. Aditi looked at the last two stops for Smith – why things worked in Tennessee, but didn’t in Atlanta. She talked about the injuries that held up the Falcons offense last season. She preached about Smith being a coach that likes to hold players accountable. 

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike reacted to the Arthur Smith hire. Mike talked about the rotation of hiring we see from coordinators in the NFL. The guys asked Mike why the Steelers only interviewed 3 guys for the OC position. Mike got into what he took from the Art Rooney press conference and if he thinks the Steelers will change their ways even in the slightest. Mike doesn’t think the Steelers expectations should be all that much different. Mike sees the Steelers riding with Kenny Pickett next year and not worrying about the veteran QB market. Will Ryan Tannehill end up in Pittsburgh to reunite with Smith? Mike said it would be Tannehill’s job to lose if the Steelers signed him. 

Will the Arthur Smith offense make Kenny Pickett better? Will it make him a star quarterback? The guys think he almost has to look better by default. But a star? Probably not. Should the Steelers inquire about Justin Fields? Poni thinks a team will be able to get Fields for a 2nd round pick or lower. Chris mentioned a suggestion he saw saying the Steelers should trade low for Malik Willis. What if Smith doesn’t want to run his offense with Pickett? Would the Steelers be better off with a high-ceiling athlete at QB?
