Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg commented on the trade between the Pirates and Padres from earlier today. He dove into what the Pirates could be getting in Jackson Wolf, the big left-handed pitcher that was the Padres’ 16th ranked prospect. Greg speculated on a few other names that have been thrown out there for the Pirates – saying he would be shocked if Austin Hedges isn’t moved. Greg said Mitch Keller is a big part of the future and should be considered a key piece with Paul Skenes in that rotation. He thinks David Bednar at the backend of the bullpen is also important to keep around. Greg talked about a good conversation with Jim Leyland ahead of today’s game with the Pirates getting set to meet the Tigers.

Jeff highlighted Nick Herbig and his quickness that looks pro-ready.

The “experts” have them finishing last in the AFC North, but Mike does not see that happening this year. He is buying into the George Pickens hype and thinks he can be a target that requires double coverage. Mike’s best-case scenario for the Steelers is largely dependent on what Kenny Pickett can do. He said we’ll have an idea of where Pickett is about midway through the season. Mike gave his take on the Jonathan Taylor situation and RB dilemma around the league. He said there is clearly a different strategy with the position compared to all the others and Taylor waited too long to make a big stink of it. Mike talked about the rivalry brewing with the Jets and Broncos due to the coaches. If Mike had to pick, he thinks the Steelers will be better than the Browns because the Steelers are consistently competitive and the Browns always come up short.

He isn’t sure if the Steelers are questioning one of their inside linebacker additions and if that’s why they signed Alexander. Jeff doesn’t think Mark Robinson is ready to be a starter yet, but it doesn’t mean he is a lost cause. Jeff said Broderick Jones looks far more comfortable already in camp than he did in the minicamp back in the spring, but said he still has to prove he is worthy of being the starting left tackle. Jeff talked about some juggling that has gone on early in camp which is why things might look a little bit funny in team drills. Jeff gives Kenny Pickett a B for his work so far in training camp. Jeff talked about where guys like Allen Robinson and Pat Freiermuth find their lanes in the offense. Jeff commented on the article that was published about George Pickens and what his expectations are for the season.
