FOOTBALL FRIDAY. Do the Steelers have a chance on Sunday in Philly? The Eagles are 10.5-point favorites, but there is a chance TJ Watt makes his return from the pec injury that has kept him out since week one. Donny and Chris don’t think the return of Watt makes enough of a difference to pull the upset. Poni oddly has some hope. 

Eagles insider Zach Berman from The Athletic joined the show. Zach talked about two recent draft picks (Landon Dickerson and Jordan Davis) that Steelers fans were loving going into the draft. He said Dickerson has been solid on the offensive line, but Davis has mainly just been a first and second down player so far. Zach talked about what is working for Jalen Hurts this year that has him among the MVP candidates. Zach said if he was a Steelers defensive coach, he would focus on the Eagles run game before anything else, which features Hurts and Miles Sanders. Zach talked about what made Kenny Pickett a Philly sports fan and how it’s sort of a homecoming for the rookie QB Sunday afternoon. Zach thinks the Eagles defense features edge rushers that can get after the QB, including new addition Robert Quinn among others. He highlighted the cornerback play the Eagles have exhibited through the first six games.

What do we need to see from the Matt Canada offense on Sunday for you to want him to stick around? Donny set the bar very high, Chris was more realistic. Poni thinks if the Steelers win, no matter the score, 13-10 or 12-9, Canada should be safe.

Steve talked about what is going on with the Steelers offense and how it can be fixed. Steve said you want 3-5 legitimate playmakers and different kinds of playmakers with a reasonable offensive line. He said the Steelers have most of those holes filled, but the offensive play calling has to come around.

Canada’s Calls – The guys broke down what Matt Canada said to the media ahead of Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

Former Steelers QB Kordell Stewart joined the show. Kordell talked about what Tom Brady might be going through right now with his football life and home life falling apart around him. The guys asked Kordell about the Steelers offense and how the play calling is impacting what we are seeing on the field. “Players that are on this team shouldn’t let out laundry on what they think the offense is…are all the plays perfect plays? Hell no. Sometimes the players just have to make things work.” Kordell is worried that the Steelers put Kenny Pickett in a very tough situation since he is a Pitt kid and it only adds to his pressure. He said the Steelers have to start doing the little things correctly before they can move forward. Kordell said he never complained with what decisions the coaches made, but he did what he had to do to help the team.

Can Matt Canada save his sinking ship? As the Steelers offense struggles week after week, Canada insists that the unit is almost there, but it’s clear players don’t believe it. If the rookie QB said something, would that be the tipping point, even though he’s a rookie? Is the performance in this game the final chance? What does it mean for Mike Tomlin if he keeps Canada on the staff if things continue to go south? 

Donny watched a very bad horror movie last week.

93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff thinks the Steelers would seriously consider removing Matt Canada as the team’s offensive coordinator with another bad outing Sunday against Philly. He said the offense’s morale seems low under Canada’s watch, but Jeff doesn’t remember an offense this new to the program. Jeff doesn’t have faith that Canada can turn the offense around at this point. Jeff said it’s a very frustrated group. With two Steelers’ IR stints – Jeff talked about Calvin Austin III having his season ended and doesn’t totally rule out TJ Watt playing Sunday, but expects him after the bye week.
