  • Bill vs. The MCU: Agents of SHIELD S2 - The Rise of The Inhumans w/ Aaron Sarnecky

Hello and welcome to Bill vs the MCU! Each month your hosts Pop Break Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus and Pop Break Editor in Chief Bill Bodkin take another step into the wider Marvel Multiverse, with reviews and interviews on the film and television series that may be drawn upon as the MCU dives deeper and deeper into its Multiverse Saga.

After rewatching the first four phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in season one and rewatching most of the first phase of Marvel’s Defenders Saga in season two, Alex and Bill are back with their third season, entitled “Agents in Crisis,” where they will be diving into the broadcast television corner of Marvel Multiverse and reviewing select arcs from the first four seasons of Agents of SHIELD.

This month, Alex and Bill check in with select mini-arcs from SHIELD’s second season, including S2E9-11, S2E16-17, and S2E20-22, as our team tries to fend off the last remaining forces of Hydra while discovering the mystery of the Inhumans.

To help them discuss this sophomore season, Alex sits down with the man who spent most of the last decade writing SHIELD recaps for The Pop Break.com and who now serves as one half of The Anniversary Brothers Podcast, Aaron Sarnecky.

We also rundown the month in Marvel headline with another edition of Alex’s monthly segment Miss Minutes Marvel Memo, where he and Bill try to cram in a month’s of MCU headlines in five minutes!

  • The Anniversary Brothers TV Podcast: That ‘70s Show 25th Anniversary

Senior Writer Aaron Sarnecky and Senior TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky are back. This time they’re talking about That ‘70s Show for its 25th anniversary.

That ‘70s Show is a sitcom created by Mark Brazill, Bonnie Turner, and Terry Turner. It debuted on August 23, 1998 on FOX, where it ran for eight seasons. The 200th and final episode aired on May 18, 2006.

Set in the 1970s, the series chronicles the misadventures of teenager Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and his friends. His friends are Donna (Laura Prepon), Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Jackie (Mila Kunis), Hyde (Danny Masterson), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama). Other major characters include Eric’s parents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp).

That ‘70s Show is still immensely popular. In February, Netflix renewed the sequel series That ‘90s Show for a second season. That ‘80s Show, a series in the same vein but featuring none of the original cast, briefly aired in 2002.

Aaron and Josh go over their history with the series before looking at the pilot. They also discuss whether they’ll revisit the show.

For a podcast on an actual ‘70s show, you can listen to Josh and Aaron’s Match Game podcast with Digital Trends Editor Allison Lips.

  • TV Break: August 2023 - Heartstopper’s S2 Swoons; Special Ops: Lioness Lowers The Bar; AMPTP Refuses to Return To Table w/ WGA, SAG-AFTRA; & AEW Collision Continues to Impress

Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.

Here’s the format of the show:

The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, & Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including MAX’s Harley Quinn, Hulu’s Futurama & Reservation Dogs, FX’s What We Do In The Shadows, HBO’s How To with John Wilson, AppleTV+’s The Afterparty, Netflix’s Heartstopper, Disney Plus’s Bluey, TNT’s AEW Collision, & Crunchyroll’s The Master Cat Is Depressed Again + Reborn As A Vending Machine Now I Wonder The Dungeon.

News Break – Alex, Bill, and Josh break down the latest on the WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes and the AMPTP’s intransigence, including a breakdown of the recent WGA/AMPTP meeting and how it all fell apart. If you would like to support the Hollywood community who are enduring a financial hardship with no end in site thanks to the studio’s refusal to negotiate, please donate to the Entertainment Community Fund.

Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, & Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. Bill returned from his Parisian vacation with nothing but raves for Netflix thanks to their 5.2 million new subs this quarter, their well received series Quarterback & Heartstopper, and their upcoming One Piece live action remake. He also has some mixed feelings about Suits’s recent success on the streamer.

Meanwhile, Josh makes the case for Hulu after The Bear’s second season takes a victory lap, they debut hit shows such as Justified: City of Primeval, What We Do In The Shadows, Futurama, and Reservation Dog, and they air the long awaited Bleach: One Thousand Years Blood War.

Finally, Alex surprises by handing the victory to Peacock, thanks to debuting hit films like Super Mario Bros & Asteroid City, airing English Premier League Soccer & the Women’s World Cup Spanish language telecast, gaining traction with their WWE content, and adding 2 million more subs.

New Series Spotlight – Alex, Bill, & Josh review Paramount Plus’s Special Ops: Lioness, Taylor Sheridan’s newest star studded series, this time starring Zoe Saldana, Morgan Freedman & Nicole Kidman, in addition to Laysla De Oliviera, LaMonica Garrett, among others. The series follows Saldana’s character as she grapples with the recent loss of an asset in the field.

  • Batman By The Numbers: Summer 2023 DCU Check In

There’s arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he’s been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City’s greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there’s plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman’s history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters.

Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break’s former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you’re a Batman fan, this is required listening.

Batman takes a back seat in this podcast as we delve into a heavy DC-centric episode!  The Flash has come and gone faster than the Flash himself.  Despite all the hoopla and hype surrounding this film, it now stands as one of the biggest box office flops of all time.  How did we get here???

Joined by his DC brethren, Podcast Editor, Alex Marcus, and Editor-in-Chief of the popbreak, Bill Bodkin, the three surgically pick apart how this happened as if it were an Operation game on steroids.  Aside from dissecting The Flash, the three do a deep dive on all things DC and superhero movies in general.  Yes, the three get their hands dirty and ask the dreaded and cliché of all cliché questions – “Is there superhero fatigue in Hollywood?”  But we promise, it’s an evaluation to this question like you’ve never heard!

The trio also catch up on all the major Superman: Legacy news, offering their thoughts on the cast, discuss what James Gunn needs to do going forward to make this new DC Universe a success, and each panelist singles out one upcoming movie from DC they are looking forward to most in the near future.  The answers may surprise you!If you LOVE “Where are we with superhero movies?” talk, this is a must listen to episode!
