He’d been a teacher, briefly. Then a husband. Then a son saying goodbye to a father who no longer remembered his name. When the marriage quietly ended and the house fell silent, Jonah took a job at the town’s old bookstore, The Winding Shelf. It was the kind of place where hours blurred, where sunlight slanted in just so, and the only sound was the soft turning of pages.
