The Portal - Daily College Recruiting and NIL Podcast

ON3’s Andy Staples’ post-spring top 25 is good, but it has flaws. With primary points about the Transfer Portal and recruiting, I discuss why I like many of Staples’ picks but also push back on other rankings.

I give provide eight questions college football fans should ask about their teams, as well as any football team in a top 25, as a guide. There are a few exceptions, and I explain those as well…

I joined Jackson Holzer of Locked On Syracuse to discuss whether former Texas and Washington wide receiver Johntay Cook is finally making an impact. I say yes and go into detail as to why but here’s one key point right now: speed!

The Orange also has a few offensive line commitments from the Transfer Portal that Holzer and I get into a discussion about.

Locked On Spartans host Matt Sheehan gives his blunt take on the state of Michigan State football today. There’s good news and bad news.

The Spartans added Transfer Portal talent across the board. More help along the offensive line was good, so was adding multiple defensive ends, and adding more receiving help for quarterback Aiden Chiles. Now for the bad news.

Michigan State has not added enough top-end talent, at least on paper, to close the talent gap with Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Will the Spartans add more transfers before the 2025 season begins?

The Ohio State Buckeyes won the spring Transfer Portal with no players leaving. None! Ryan Day’s culture is strong in Columbus. There are still question marks about specific Ohio State positions, however.

Do the Buckeyes have the proper depth at defensive tackle? Where should Ohio State add more Transfer Portal talent? Should Ryan Day have signed a veteran quarterback even if he was just an experienced voice in the room?

The Auburn Tigers were making a hard push for quarterback Travis Burgess. Well, now Auburn has added an official visit with quarterback Landon Duckworth. Perhaps Hugh Freeze and the Tigers would still take the commitment of Burgess, but there are many layers to Auburn’s quarterback recruiting.

Helping to understand what’s going on with Auburn is Locked On Auburn host Zac Blackerby. We each give our takes on what Auburn’s end-goal is and how Duckworth’s recruitment could play out.

Texas A&M has a Texas Longhorns problem. A big problem, in fact. Texas increased the talent gap with the Aggies during the past year via recruiting and the spring Transfer Portal. Locked On Aggies host Andrew Stefaniak agrees and explains why it happened.

Texas A&M is improving from Transfer Portal additions, but what about quarterback Marcel Reed? Will he have enough weapons to win? Does the defensive tackle position have answers?
