The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast

The Gospel—May we be unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16). Please note that this is a metaphorical take on the Gospel. It presumes a knowledge of the historic framework of the Cross, Burial, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ. Though certain elements of the Cross-work are not fully explained herein (i.e.: Jesus's fulfillment of all righteousness, His perfect match with all the Old Testament Messianic prophecy, and His bearing of the outpoured wrath of God in our stead), we in no way wish to diminish their significance and importance in the Gospel landscape.

The sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us.” 2 KINGS 6:1, NKJV

Section: There are times in Israel’s history, particularly during the ministries of Elijah and Elisha, when the “sons of the prophets” lived in groups under a well-known prophetic master.

Section: This defies many of our assumptions, namely that in biblical times, someone was either a prophet or he wasn’t.

Section: But as with any spiritual gift, there is room for practice, learning, and growth.

Takeaway: The prophet continues to live among us today. We just have to figure out what it means to be one in this time.

Father, I want to enroll in Your school of prophecy. No matter how long the learning curve lasts, I will persist under Your training. Teach me to hear and to speak.

Section: Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Section: Saul prophesied.

I cry to you, O God, but you don’t answer. I stand before you, but you don’t even look. JOB 30:20

Job begged for some kind of explanation, some answer, even just a hint. He cried out to God and longed for a response. He wanted the truth from God, not platitudes from friends. But for a long, excruciating time, he heard nothing.

The God who desires a relationship with His people, who has promised that His people will hear His voice, didn’t say a word. And Job was left to wonder. We go through seasons of wondering too. We listen for God, and for painfully long times we don’t hear what He is saying. Sometimes we draw false conclusions about whether He really speaks or whether we are equipped to hear.

Messages From God

From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done. ISAIAH 43:13

“I want you to understand all that ‘from eternity to eternity’ includes. It means that not only can no one can undo anything I have done, but that no one can undo what I have said, either. It’s true that I often interact with My people with a softness in My will; like Moses, you can change My direction with your prayers and pleas...

[The Lord said,] “In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” JEREMIAH 29:12-13

Charles Finney was in a wrestling match with his own soul to give his heart to God. He resolved one Sunday in 1821 to settle the question of his salvation once and for all, before all other concerns in his life, and he spent days trying to pray and grasp the truth of the gospel. The next Wednesday, on his way to the office, he heard an inward voice: What are you waiting for? Are you endeavoring to earn a righteousness of your own? Immediately, he saw the fullness of the atonement of Christ. And later, while on his knees before God, yet worried that someone might see him, a passage of Scripture “seemed to drop” into his mind  —the promise of Jeremiah 29:13 that those who seek God wholeheartedly will find Him. Finney had vowed to give his heart to God, and the verse assured him that his vow could be fulfilled and his gift would be accepted. He suddenly saw his faith as a matter of the will and not of the intellect. Over the next few days, he experienced the presence of Jesus and the love of God in profoundly personal ways.

Mary Magdalene knew what it was like to be repulsive to others, ignored, undeserving until she met Jesus. She discovered that others’ perception of her was not the image Jesus saw. When she realized that Jesus believed in her, she believed in Him and was there the morning He rose from the grave. Her story will remind people that Jesus loves them even if they feel unlovable, and encourage your congregation to keep telling others about what He has done for them.

If anyone speaks, they should do it as one who speaks the very words of God. 1 PETER 4:11, NIV

Scripture tells us that we who believe have the mind of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 2:16). It also tells us we can do the works of Christ and that we can be filled with the fullness of God (see John 14:12 and Ephesians 3:19). So why would we be surprised when Scripture tells us that we can speak the very words of God? It only makes sense that the God who loves to communicate  —the God who inspired a Bible full of truth and incarnated His Son as “the Word”  —would continue to speak through His people...
