About the guest:
Labrini Nelligan was appointed Executive Director of the Lunder-Dineen Health Education Alliance of Maine in November 2012. Labrini has served as a principal on the Lunder-Dineen team since the inception of the program and has led the development of this first-of-its-kind program between an academic medical center and a neighboring state. To assist in building an infrastructure for LunderDineen, Labrini identified and convened the membership of an Advisory Committee and three Pilot Advisory Teams to represent broad-based stakeholders from Mass General and Maine.
Working in concert with the Lunder-Dineen Co-Chairs and Chief Learning Officer, and guided by Labrini’s leadership, the Lunder-Dineen Team designs, develops and launches interprofessional, blended learning health education programs. These programs are selected to address identified public health, workforce and health disparity needs impacting residents across the state of Maine.
Previously, Labrini served as Associate Director of Development Campaigns and Logistics at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She continues to work in concert with the Mass General Development Office, to ensure a coordinated approach and to advance program sustainability and fundraising focus for Lunder-Dineen, by developing and implementing fundraising strategy. Prior to her work at Mass General, Labrini served as scheduler for Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly and later as a fundraiser on his gubernatorial campaign.
Labrini earned a B.A. in Political Science from Boston University and an M.S. in Political Science from Suffolk University.

47:10 – Labrini says thank you as Lunder-Dineen turns ten this year.

About the guest:
Shannon Bryan didn't hike or paddle or do yoga with goats when she was growing up in the Chicago suburbs. But after she moved to Maine in 2005, she couldn't resist the lure of Maine's woods and waters. Not to mention all those funky fitness classes, which sometimes include goats.
She spent 10 years at MaineToday Media (now Masthead Maine) as a content producer for mainetoday.com, covering all sorts of entertaining things to do, from bar crawls and brunches to paint nights and burlesque. On weekends, she explored Maine's coast and inland waters, planted her feet on mountain summits, bought a road bike and a mountain bike and a paddleboard and tried ice climbing and fly fishing and a whitewater canoe race. And she loved all of it - even the stuff she was pretty bad at.
Fit Maine was born out of that love for Maine's outdoors and for the experiences anyone can have trying something new, getting physical in entertaining ways, and realizing that "being fit" isn't always about feats at the gym or stamina on the treadmill - it’s about being able to do all the cool stuff there is to do around Maine. Fitmaine.com was launched in 2015 as a resource for cool ways to work out and be active. In 2019, Shannon launched the Fit Maine Social Club, where members go do active stuff together.
In the episode:
2:40 – Shannon shares how her career began in digital media at MaineToday (now Masthead Maine).
4:05 – Shannon talks about how Fit Maine started.
8:37 – Shannon describes how brands can build their brand and reputation using content.
11:20 – Nancy and Shannon talk about how their personalities help to build their brands.
15:25 – Shannon tells how the way she measures success has changed over time.
20:15 – Shannon shares her philosophy on falling down.
24:00 – Shannon speaks about the importance of finding and building an audience.
32:14 – Shannon talks about challenging herself and doing things that scare her.
37:43 – Nancy asks how Shannon she builds her network and the Fit Maine social club.
39:41 – Shannon describes some of the activities the Fit Maine Social Club has done.
41:16 – Shannon shares some of the resources she finds helpful, including bouncing ideas off of her friends.
42:54 – Shannon shares a few parting thoughts about being real and creating content for your audience.
Quote:
“I know the word authentic gets thrown around a lot, but it's true. If you can show that you're a real person and this is what you're really about and talk to the people you're talking to in a way that's genuine, well, that's worth all the money in the world.” – Shannon Bryan, Founder of Fit Maine and the Fit Maine Social Club
