Joe and Producer Andrew are at it again. As a way of previewing the movies that are coming out the next year, we have a draft of upcoming films. In the end, we get the total box office of each film multiplied by its Rottentomatoes score added to our box office tally. The player with the highest box office total at the end of the year wins.

This year has one of the hardest-to-pick group of films being released since we started playing the game.

Joe and Producer Andrew are talking about Metropolis, one of the most iconic silent films ever made. A two-and-a-half hour German Expressionist sci-fi epic directed by Fritz Lang, Metropolis tells the story of Freder, the son of a rich, ruling class father, falling in love with Maria, a woman from the lower classes. Freder discovers the massive class divide that was hidden from him, and then a plot by a mad scientist almost destroys the city. Themes are more text than subtext in this visually stunning film from 1927.

It’s our ninth annual Christmas Special! Producer Andrew provided Joe and Protagonist Podcast co-founder Todd seven titles to different Christmas movies they’ve never seen. They’ve each written a plot summary inspired by that title and read the summary. Andrew then reveals the real plot summary and picks which fake plot he would most like to watch. Todd and Joe’s competitive juices take over and they end up genuinely caring about who wins.
