  • PP 001 - Maximising Your Creativity

Maximising your Creativity. Easier said than done but once you become mindful of what keeps your head in that place where you can be more efficient with your work then you truly are on your way to getting the most out of your writing sessions and down time.

This isn’t just about working every hour of every day and night and bashing out tunes. This is about knowing when to stop, when to eat, when to drink, when to play Playstation and when to go out for a walk. Whatever it is that opens your mind up to a more positive environment is exactly the place you need to put yourself in more to get the most out of your writing sessions.

I hope you enjoy this very first episode of the ‘Protege Podcast’!

  • CS 045 - Hellbound (Netflix) - Trailer Structure

In this episode we talk about what is trailer structure and how it works inside of a real life trailer.

The example is an upcoming Netflix spot called ‘Hellbound’. This one was one of those wonderful moments where the editor used my entire track to cover all 3 acts. Which made this a great example for this episode!

  • CS 043 - Quality vs Quantity

This is a question that keeps coming up.

‘Should you focus on Quality or Quantity in the world of production music?’

In this podcast I talk about this age old question that comes up on a weekly basis.

Quality is going to set you apart from the crowd while Quantity will maximise your chances of getting a hit. Composers can follow the extreme of either path or find themselves somewhere in the middle.

I focus on using a bit of both and have found the balance of delivering the best tracks I can submit in a short amount of time to be both artistically satisfying and financially rewarding. Having a short amount of time to finish a track means you have to focus on what’s going to sell your track most effectively. What key elements are going to put your idea across in the most dramatic and impressive way.

I hope you enjoy this podcast!

    Guy

  • CS 042 - Writing A Horror Cue From Scratch

Hello and welcome to another Composer Stories Podcast!

This one’s slightly different. It’s a walkthrough of me writing a full horror cue and has a relative video to go with it that you can also watch in the link below.

This is generally how I go about writing a lot of my sound design cues but in this one I focus entirely on using Mammoth Audios, ‘Density’ sample instrument and ‘Tank’ sample pack.

    Hope you enjoy!

  • CS 040 - Protege

In this week’s episode I wanted to focus on what has been a huge part of my, Rich and Vik’s last year. The Protege Masterclass. I wanted to reflect on all the things that went on in the year just gone and take some time to fully acknowledge just how well our first masterclass did!

I pair my own thoughts with some thoughts of our students from the year just finished, which leads nicely into our second ever masterclass starting at the end of next week!

We only have a couple of spaces left and once those spots are filled we will close applications until next year!

If you’re interested you can fill out your application below and schedule a call with myself, Vik, Rich or Shane!

  • CS 039 - Working Relationships Part 2

This week is an incredibly special episode. Earlier in the year Richard Schrieber, Vikram Gudi and I met up to plan our year to come. We covered everything from the music we were going to write to the plan for our year with Protégé. We found ourselves having some amazing conversations and at one point in particular I decided to put a mic up so we could record some of what we were talking about.

This is the second part of the two parter where Vik and Rich talk about the importance of sustaining a mutually respectful relationship. How their relationship of composer to producer built into owning a company together and what their successes were along the way.

  • CS 038 - Working Relationships Part 1 - with Rich & Vik

This week is an incredibly special episode. Earlier in the year myself, Richard Schrieber and Vikram Gudi met up to action plan our year to come. We covered everything from the music we were going to write to the plan for our year with Protégé. We found ourselves having some amazing conversations and at one point in particular I decided to put a mic up so we could record some of what we were talking about.

This first part of a two-part episode focuses heavily on the advantages of building up successful working relationships. Rich and Vik have built an incredibly profitable partnership but to really maximize your opportunities within the industry it’s not as simple as just finding the people that make you the most money! This industry is part of a long old game. You have to build genuine friendships with the right people that fit your personality and work ethic. Finding those people is just the starting point. Nurturing the right relationships for you is the real trick.

I hope you enjoy this episode!
