If every online tutor had the same outlook and commitment as Atul, the tutoring world would look just a little rosier. Here, we discuss the pitfalls of the current system of education, the difference between expert and novice tutors and developing one's own unique style of tutoring.

Colette Stevenson is passionate about supporting others to learn for themselves. As a graphic designer and educator with ADHD, Colette is well aware of the need for giving learners space.
We've long encouraged the use of visuals and graphics in tutoring, as a way to diversify our sessions and give students a different angle of approaching their learning. In this conversation, Colette explains why tutors should use graphics and their importance in enhancing learning.
For further information on Colette's new Instagram project, go and check out @postagrid. Perry Clemons has got a new and refreshing way for you to learn Maths. Perry has created a set of Mathic Games which will revolutionise your relationship with Maths.
Ideal for tutors, these two games, the Mathic Number game and the Mathic Fraction game, allow students to visualise Maths in a game environment. The rules are simple and can be found by visiting either Mathic Number (https://www.mathicnumbercardgame.com/mathic-number) or Mathic Fraction (https://www.mathicnumbercardgame.com/mathic-fraction).

Jessica Rutherford and Clare Devanney-Glynn are the pioneering hosts of the Spotlight on FASD Podcast and we welcome them on to discuss this condition in the sphere of education.
Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is the term for a group of conditions caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol and, perhaps surprisingly, it is the most common, non-genetic cause of learning disability in the UK (British Medical Association, 2007). Studies have shown that as much as 1 student in every class may suffer from FASD.
It is incredibly important that educators and medical professionals treat FASD seriously.
Here, we explore what tutors can do in a tutoring session to aid students with this condition. (Hint: it is NOT what happens in a classroom setting)
The best resource for tutors who are new to FASD, as recommended by Jessica, has been produced by the NHS for Ayrshire And Arran, Understanding FASD: What Educators need to know. Start here and continue to listen in to the Spotlight on FASD Podcast.

Matthew Baetzhold is a Maths, Science and Writing tutor with a thorough knowledge of how classrooms and learning in schools work.
The conversation here puts forward suggestions for how a future in schools of collaboration between tutors and teachers would work. With an emphasis on reducing the burden, both in terms of planning and managing certain students, 'tutors' would take one-on-one sessions during school hours, while 'teachers' would deal with group sessions.
It may sound like sweeping changes, but it's already being implemented in both the UK and the US.
While you're mulling over what Matthew and Ludo are proposing, don't forget to grab your tickets to Matthew's upcoming TAGGS summit event, Of Math and Magic. You can find tickets for the FREE event, taking place this Saturday 10th April at 7:15pm BST, by clicking here.Β
