A difficult week for the Murray State Basketball family got that much tougher today after we learned of the passing of lifelong Racer fan Larry Suiter. Calling Larry a ‘fan’ doesn’t remotely do him justice. One of the most passionate supporters of Murray State, Larry made an impact that won’t soon be forgotten. In today’s podcast, I share thoughts on his passing and some memories of the man who embodied Murray State.

South Florida Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim passed away on Thursday at the age of 43. According to a USF news release, Abdur-Rahim was undergoing a medical procedure at a Tampa-area hospital when he passed away due to complications that arose during the procedure.

Abdur-Rahim got his coaching career started at Murray State. In the 2006-07 season, he began as a Graduate Assistant before being promoted to a full-time Assistant Coach under Billy Kennedy. Abdur-Rahim had played for Kennedy at Southeastern Louisiana before rejoining him at Murray State.

In today’s podcast, I talk with former Murray State players Jewuan Long and Jeff McClain about their memories of Abdur-Rahim and the impact he had on both of their lives.

Back in 2022, when Abdur-Rahim was the head coach at Kennesaw State, I had a podcast called ‘Coaching Origins’. In it, head coaches talked about their sometimes lengthy journey to getting that first head coaching job. In today’s podcast, I talk with Murray State senior Jenna Walker. After dealing with chronic knee injuries, Walker recently made the decision to walk away from her playing career. We had an emotional conversation about that decision, the reaction her coaches and teammates had to her announcement, and how she hopes to continue impacting the program in her new role.

In today’s podcast, we talk about the future of Murray State Basketball with Athletics Director Nico Yantko. On Thursday, Yantko presented plans for renovations to the CFSB Center to the Murray State Board of Regents. Yantko discusses what fans and student-athletes can expect from those renovations and when we can expect them to be completed. We also look at how the added revenue from the updated arena will help fund upcoming changes in the college sports landscape, and how Yantko will try to parlay those changes into keeping Murray State a championship caliber program for years to come.

Reese was part of four Ohio Valley Conference championship teams and three NCAA Tournament teams in his time in a Racer uniform.
