Our host, the Professor Cesare Augusto, waxes sentimental in this episode, since LITTLE FUGITIVE takes place in his old stomping grounds of Brooklyn, NY. Our story centers around the misadventures of 7-year old Joey (the marvelously natural child actor Richie Ambrusco) who, after mistakenly thinking he murdered his older brother Lennie in a freak accident. Not knowing that Lennie had set up his own "death" with a cruel prank, Joey flees for his life and winds up in the wild, bustling world of Coney Island. There, Joey explores the theme park's many rides, games, and other activities as our hero navigates from one adventure to another!
LITTLE FUGITIVE is a prime example of great storytelling despite an obvious low budget. Cesare analyzes the film's excellent acting, simplistic yet bouncy soundtrack, and it's deceptively brilliant execution in depicting young Joey's guilt at the thought of "killing" his older brother. Fans of classic European avant-garde cinema are sure to see where the great French and Italian masters got their influence for their own pictures from THIS little-seen fascinating film!
