A Rad Revival House first!
We proudly welcome our inaugural Special Guest Speaker, Mr. Hayden Craddolph of the sharp and innovative filmmaker nonprofit organization, Haydenfilms Institute, as he and host Cesare Augusto explore the brilliant and criminally-underseen 1981 thriller BLOW OUT!
Directed by legendary filmmaker Brian DePalma and film icon John Travolta, BLOW OUT is a murder mystery unlike any other; it is full assault on the visual and audio-based senses.
While capturing background noises for a seedy horror movie shoot, brooding sound effects specialist Jack Terry (a never-better Travolta) witnesses a car crash in a Philadelphia park at the dead night. He also unwittingly records noises that point the crash was anything but accidental. After saving the sole survivor of the crash, a spirited escort named Sally (the great Nancy Allen), Jack discovers a political conspiracy of deadly proportions. Both Jack and Sally find themselves the target of ruthless assassin Burke (a truly scary John Lithgow).
Both Cesare and Hayden analyze why among Brian DePalma's movies, this is his most special. Together, they explore the fabulous use of sound, camera angles, the gritty Philadelphia setting, and John Travolta's against-type casting away from his usual big-screen adventures.
