ROME ARMED TO THE TEETH, the 1976 Italian cop thriller directed by genre maestro Umberto Lenzi, is a no-holds-barred example of the Poliziotteschi subgenre of action movie, as Italian filmmakers borrowed (or some would say, "stolen") elements of the already popular cop and gangster movement from Hollywood, and made it their bloody own. Joined by filmmaker and fellow mega-cinephile Mel Cartagena, host Professor Cesare Augusto explores this badass Italo-action thriller as they follow the violent exploits of tough police inspector Leonardo Tanzi (Italian action legend Maurizio Merli) who tears up the city of Rome in order to stop the massive crime way of hunchbacked archcriminal Vincenzo Moretto (the gleefully maniacal Tomas Milian).

On the final Rad Revival House review of 2023, we time-warp back to Ancient Greece (or cinematically-speaking, the early 1960s) with the fantasy classic, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS!

Join our host, the Professor Cesare Augusto, who analyzes this cinematic retelling of the mythological adventure where Jason (Todd Armstrong) recruits a band of warriors he christens the Argonauts, as they journey through the ends of the earth to recapture the mystical Golden Fleece. The film is famous for its vividly vintage stop-action motion special effects designed to breathe life in the mythological creatures that try to prevent Jason and his men from accomplishing their quest. The man behind the creatures was special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen, whose technical talents effectively thrill audiences from the film's debut in 1963, to today!

On the 25th episode of The Rad Revival House, our host Professor Cesare Augusto analyzes the bizarre and visually-striking 1968 Science Fiction chiller GOKE, BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL. Directed by one of Japan's premiere genre directors Hajima Sato (CAPTAIN ULTRA, THE GOLDEN BAT), GOKE tells the gripping tale of a small band of plane crash survivors who must contend with a flying saucer attack, a crippling growing tension amongst each other, and bloodthirsty space vampires.

Not limited to just being an alien invasion adventure, GOKE is also a profound character piece which emphasizes human nature during a time of severe crisis; in this case, an extraterrestrial attack! Special guest lecturer Frank Mandosa of the great film enthusiast podcast "Silver Screeners" joins us today as we discuss this poignant classroom drama where idealistic young teacher Mark Thackaray (Poitier) who takes a job educating a classroom full of rowdy teenagers in a London school. When the kids prove to be a huge handful for Mark, he employs an unorthodox method of guidance by abandoning conventional academics and instead teaching the kids life's hard knocks.

Those interested in exploring the career of the trailblazing Sidney Poitier should watch TO SIR, WITH LOVE in a true marathon fashion with his other 1967 masterpieces, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER and IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT!

The intent behind CRIMINALLY FORGOTTEN ACTORS is to reintroduce these actors to the mainstream moviegoing audience and highlight some of their very best performances.

Our first test subject is the late, great 1970s actor Al Lettieri. Most famously known for portraying ambitiously brutal mobster Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo in THE GODFATHER, Lettieri would become a fixture in the 70s Crime Genre where he mostly played heavies and squared off against such vintage icons as Al Pacino, Steve McQueen, and Charles Bronson. What made Lettieri so memorable was his ability to play both slickly evil gangsters such as the Turk, and violently insecure criminals like Frank Renda in MR. MAJESTYK.

Ace podcaster Frank Mandosa of "Silver Screeners" returns to our show as he joins our host, Professor Cesare Augusto, to discuss three key performances in John Candy's library: Del Griffith in the Thanksgiving classic PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES, the titular Uncle Buck Russell in UNCLE BUCK, and his rare attempt at serious acting, Dean Andrew's in Oliver Stone's controversial JFK. Both Cesare and Frank analyze just what made Candy so special in comedy, as well as what he could have brought to the table in the Drama department. Candy would pass away in 1994, and we'll never know what kind of a dramatic actor he might have turned out if he tried it.

But this is a discussion for both die-hard John Candy fans and deeply-analyzing cinephiles must not miss!

On this very special episode of The Rad Revival House, we pay tribute to TV star and legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy, who passed away on this day last year, November 10, 2022.

Conroy, who will be forever immortalized as the premier voice of Batman starting in 1992's epic DC TV series, BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, previously graced the small screen in the little-seen, yet exciting made-for-TV movie THE FACE OF FEAR in 1990. Primarily starring Lee Horsley and Pam Dauber, THE FACE OF FEAR tells the tale of a success publisher/mountaineer/psychic Graham Harris (Horsley), who, along with his NYPD detective wife Connie (Dauber), find themselves stalked in a skyscraper by a homicidal killer (Conroy). Despite its limited budget and obvious made-for-TV production values, THE FACE OF FEAR provides a generous helping of suspense and thrillers, thanks mainly to its main antagonist Conroy, who shines in a brilliantly evil role.
