You’re constantly looking for ways to engage your audience with your content; to make them feel more connected to you; help them understand what working with you actually looks and feels like; to show them how you can make their lives better; and help them understand why they should choose you over someone else. And that can feel like a lot of pressure when you’re working on your content marketing. But the truth is, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to do all that, or even be coming up with anything particularly groundbreaking. Because some of the most simple and powerful content you can share, can be inspired by what you’re doing day in, day out on autopilot inside your business. In fact, everything you do in your working day has the potential to be turned into a story or piece of valuable content that will help your followers see you as the go-to expert for whatever you do. And today I’m sharing with you some of my favourite ways to create great content that feels fresh, original, establishes you as a leader, and most importantly feels easy.

Adding guest expert to your offer is a great way to grow your authority and get more eyeballs on your brand.

Essentially it's about collaborating with other brands with similar audiences to yours and providing content for their blogs, podcasts or even paid offers like courses, memberships and programs, in return for exposure to their warm and engaged audience.

It's a fantastic audience growth strategy that's free and much quicker than growing your own engaged audience from scratch, but there is a definite right and wrong way of going about this, and if you're not careful and really intentional about how you guest expert, at best you risk not properly leveraging an amazing opportunity, and at worst, you risk completely wasting your time.

In today's episode I'm sharing my biggest learnings of how to make the most of guest expert opportunities - which ones to take, which ones to avoid, and how to be a really great guest.

For so many small businesses online, social media has become one of the most vital business and marketing tools they have, connecting them with ideal customers, sharing their message and getting them seen and heard....

But if you've ever felt that for every benefit social media brings to your life and business, there's a downside, like the distraction; the pressure to be present and visible and the drama, you're not alone.

With more of us opening our eyes to the negative effects of social media, more online business owners have started to question how best they can use it to grow their business.

This is something I've been so fascinated by myself as I know that the line between seeing social media as a business tool and my business can so easily become blurred. And when I noticed a couple of my favourite entrepreneurs making moves away from their social channels I began to not only wonder whether my small business could survive without social media, but whether it could actually thrive.  My conclusion well yes.

“Write like you speak,” they said! “Just make it sound natural and informal,” they told you! You know your writing needs to be light, chatty & easy-to-read… because let’s face it, no-one sits down with a cuppa to read some of that stiff, formal, salesy content. Heart-led over hard sell is a topic very close to my heart. Because when I started out in business I took a lot of advice about the right way to do things, even though it didn’t feel good to me - but these guys were the experts and making big bucks so obviously this was how I had to do it.

And I think although it was perhaps a right of passage - you sometimes have to try things to know how you feel about them, it also kept me stalled in the starting blocks for a long time.  Because the truth is, there’s no one way to run your business, and being successful at marketing yourself online can look like many different things. And what’s most important is not that you’re using the latest cool technique or strategy, but that how you show up and serve your audience and let them know about the offers you have for them, feels good.

So if you’ve ever been told this is how you have to do it, and it feels more than just pushing you out of your comfort zone, but pushing you out of integrity or away from the way you truly want to do business as well, this episode is for you.

Procrasti-content - you know that content that we tell ourselves is so important, but it’s really to avoid the REAL work? Believe me, I know all about this, and it’s something I have to be vigilant against at all times, and I see it in entrepreneurs so often; because if your website’s always in draft mode, you don’t have to beat yourself up for the fact that you’re not fully booked yet! And if you’re slaving away on an epic blog series, it’s ok to skip that facebook live, surely?

 But here’s the thing, unless we recognise what this kind of behaviour really means for our business, we are never going to get to those big lofty dreams of where we really want to be; whether that’s touching the lives of millions with books and podcasts, or growing a loyal, dedicated following of thousands who love everything that you do.
