In this episode, Blaine Feyen talks about how our bodies and minds are inextricably linked and how we can use one to positively affect the other. Blaine also goes so far as to explain how its every individuals personal responsibility to take control of their feelings and emotions. This can be done in a variety of ways, one being to take control of one's physiology. Change the way your body is being and you change the way your mind is feeling. 

The same thing works for your body in that you can change the way your body feels by taking control of your internal dialogue and changing what you say to yourself. How we think and feel are two things we CAN control in life and its your responsibility to do so! Appraisers, especially, must learn this vital skill of taking control and responsibility for how they think, feel, act, and respond.

In this Episode, Blaine talks about the difference between principles and values, and practices and methodologies. He goes deep on why its absolutely vital to have a well defined, and documented, set of values and principles that guide your daily practices and methodologies. 

Blaine encourages listeners to develop a 'Strategic Identity Document' for your business, which is a document that clearly articulates the founders and the company's values and principles so that they are very clear and can inform daily decisions and practices.

In this episode, Blaine talks about starting your daily gratitude exercise and upgrading your mindset, as well as the people you hang out with. If you want to truly grow, there are two things that must grow first: your mindset and the people around you.

The two things that hold most people back from real growth are their mindset and the people they've surrounded themselves with. This doesn't mean that the people around you are bad people, but the people around you often don't want to you to grow beyond them out of their own fear of being left behind.

In this episode, Blaine discusses the 'expert pyramid' and what it takes to climb to the top where the experts reside. Blaine explains that the top of the expert pyramid is not necessarily occupied by those with the most technical skills, but instead with those who have developed the most vital skills of communication and leadership. 

Often in business, it is not the smartest who experience the greatest success, but instead the most driven, the most creative, those with the best communication, negotiation, and client service skills, and those who understand their markets the best.

Listen in for some tips on climbing the expert pyramid and the key things to focus on if you have any desire to move above the crowded level of the novice and even the specialist. The air is better at the top, and so are the fees!

In this episode, Blaine discusses the very important idea that you cannot save a job or industry that doesn't 'want' to be saved. The appraisal industry is changing at a very rapid rate and there are many who think the answer is coming together as an industry to lobby for the appraisal process to remain the same. While Blaine doesn't disagree that a good appraisal and a good appraisal process is important and vital to the loan process and the overall health of any real estate market, Blaine would argue that your efforts are better spent on your business and on getting out into your markets to educate the people at 'ground level', the Realtors, Lenders, and purchasers of real estate on why the appraisal process is important and how to choose a quality appraiser. 

Don't waste you precious time and vital life energy fighting against something that will happen regardless of your efforts to stop it! Save yourself by working on your own business and becoming the pre-eminent provider of real estate appraisal services in your market!

In this episode, Blaine talks about the missing piece in most businesses that can determine success, failure, or even just the difference between mediocre results and skyrocketed results! The missing piece is accountability and its one of he big missing pieces in most appraisal businesses. The real estate and mortgage industries tend to have much higher levels of accountability since most Realtors and Lenders work in offices with managers, other Realtors, and their brokers or owners.

Appraisers tend to be one and two person home offices with little to no accountability for their daily activities, their monthly targets, their profit goals (if they even have any), their marketing needs, and their daily productivity and efficiency. Most appraisers simply 'do' when it comes to appraising with nobody holding them accountable. Blaine strongly recommends finding an 'accountability partner' to help you move toward the goals and plans every appraiser should have to be more profitable with less time in the office. 

In this episode, Blaine goes over the process to develop you Master Message, which comes out of the Master Mission process. The Master Message process follows closely the Storybrand 'one liner' exercise with a few slight changes. If you haven't read the Storybrand book by Donald Miller, it is highly recommended reading for developing your message.

In this episode, Blaine introduces the Hero’s Journey and how this story format can help us figure out what role we’re playing in the lives of our clients and customers. Blaine talks about the Story Brand concept, by Donald Miller, and how we’ll use some of the ideas and techniques to help build our Master Mission and then our Master Message, which is an extremely clarified statement of who we are, what we do, how we do it, and what problems we solve for our clients.

In this episode, Blaine introduces the audience to one of his coaching tools and techniques called The Value Ladder (TM). The Value Ladder is a tool that helps identify the real motivating factors behind the things people say they want to be, do, have, and achieve. Without first identifying what might be behind those motivations, achieving something just for the sake of achieving becomes a futile and time wasting experience.

Blaine talks about Maslow's hierarchy of needs and how The Value Ladder relates to human motivation. First we must satisfy certain basic needs before moving to the next level of motivation. This is true in business as well. Listen in and be ready to take notes. This exercise can be very revealing!

In this episode, Blaine discusses the common rant amongst appraisers that they're overworked and underpaid. The reality is that many appraisers have simply never been taught how to set boundaries and budget their time. Appraisers have been perpetuating thy myth of 'feast or famine' for decades, which has lead to a generation of appraisers who actually believe they go through times of famine! 

We create our businesses and we get to choose who we work with and why we might want to work with them, or not. If an appraisal business is set up properly with a reasonable mix of lender and non-lender business there is absolutely no reason to experience the 'feast or famine' cycle that most appraisers create for themselves nor the need to work ridiculous hours thus lowering the per hour income metric.
