The Realest Podcast Ever

In just about 8 years in the industry, John Petty III or JP as EVERYONE calls him has solidified himself as a legend in the world of advertising, marketing & digital media by sticking to his home grown ethics and immersing himself in “the culture.” The Southwest Philadelphia native (55th St to be exact) has gone from the block to the boardroom and in the process has solidified business relationships with companies like HBO, Budweiser & McDonalds along the way. His work in pairing Travis Scott with McDonalds is literally the stuff that legends are made of and has forever changed the way multinational companies look at brand partnerships.

In a short time, JP has moved from an ad exec with Steve Stoute’s Translation (yes THAT Steve Stoute) to Head of Social at Wieden+Kennedy NY to Executive Creative Director at their Portland HQ. As JP continues to leap the corporate ladder he never forgets his purpose, where he came from or the fact that he has to set the standard for black & brown people everywhere to know that they can do more than dribble a ball or drawl lyrics!! Our conversation with him was so genuine and transparent that it easily makes for one of the best in TRPE history. A lot of game and life lessons are woven into this episode like the finest of fabrics you’ve ever seen. Handle this episode with care because its a SPECIAL CLOTH ALERT 🚨

Taron Barnes is a North Philly kid who grew up like many of us did. Single mother, limited resources and looking for an escape. At an early age he identified a passion for hoops that would take him through a tumultuous collegiate ranks and a shot at the pros. But when that does work, THEN WHAT? What do you do when the game you love so much throws you curveball after curveball and no longer bears fruit? YOU PIVOT.

Pivoting into the fashion & merchandise world, Taron had no idea how far it would take him but in being brave, prepared & diligent its put him into elite company time and time again in short order. He’s already styled the likes of Dorian Finney-Smith of the Dallas Mavs, WNBA star Kahleah Copper & scored a collab deal with Kevin Durant’s multimedia company The Boardroom. He’s also been featured in the Philly Inquirer, Sporting News Now, Slam Online and even styled Kahleah Copper for the cover of the magazine. In under 2 years time following his departure from basketball Taron has turned his fashion house & merch company “Drip Sold Separate” into an international name that commands top dollar from both clients & consumers. Walk with us as we discuss his life story and how he was able to successfully leave the game he loved and not look back.

Be sure to follow him & his company online @taron_barnes & @dripsoldseparate

Another Monday, another banger from TRPE!! Today the boys gather to discuss all things relevant and shocking in the culture. Starting things off the guys discuss the recent INSANE shooting that took place in Philly on South St over the weekend where 15 people were shot and at least 3 were murdered. They follow up with the disturbing news of ATL rapper Trouble being killed in his hometown and Metro Boomin's mom being tragically killed in a murder-suicide situation. It's just entirely too much BULLSHIT going on in black culture and it needs to stop.

The guys round out the show with some talk of former Mav's player DeShawn Stevenson selling his 2011 Championship ring and allll the niggas in Atlanta snitching on Thug. The situation has gotten really ugly really fast and we should prepare to potentially never see Thug on the streets again.
