Comedy records are records too!
WTF podcast host Marc Maron returns to the show to talk about his new vinyl LP, From Bleak To Dark (Craft Recordings) and a bit about the comedy albums of his youth.
And since we just lost comedy legend Bob Newhart, the deadpan comic responsible for one of the most historic comedy albums of all time, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, comedy vinyl aficionado Dan Pasternack also returns to our show to say "Hi Bob" and contextualize the impact of Newhart's albums on the culture of comedy and even the Grammys.
Asheville, North Carolina's Harvest Records turns 20 this year and we welcome Matt Schnable and Mark Capon to our program to talk about all the special 20th Anniversary events they have planned, including a free festival!

Brigitte Calls Me Baby is a Chicago-based band with a sound that, while rooted in 2024 could have easily made it onto the soundtrack of an 80s John Hughes' teen comedy. But as frontpserson and songwriter Wes Leavins explains to Paul, there's more to the story, including his involvement in Baz Luhrmann's biopic, Elvis. We unpack the band's just-released debut album, The Future Is Our Way Out (ATO Records), produced by BCMB with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb.

Lawrence Rothman (they/them) is a gender fluid singer songwriter (and music producer) born in St. Louis, MO, and currently living in Los Angeles, CA.
In the course of discussing their recently released album The Plow That Broke The Plains, Lawrence describes a lot of the pain and struggle that went into the songs. It's a frank and honest conversation and we think you'll find the music compelling too.

There's kind of a theme to this week's show, which is admittedly a bit of a mashup of two previous episodes plus a new chat with Travis & Lisa from The Guestroom in Louisville, KY.
It all started last summer, when Lisa and Travis flew to London to see Blur in concert at the legendary Wembley Stadium. Cut to this year, and the July 26 release of the Blur Live At Wembley set. Paul caught up with Travis & Lisa to debrief them on what it was like to actually be there. Woo Hoo!
Well, Blur's Graham Coxon has recently been playing with Dhani Harrison, so we took this opportunity to re-post Paul's chat with Dhani earlier this year. Topics included working with his dad, George Harrison, who as you probably know was in The Beatles.
Well, THAT made us want to close this week's episode with a reprise of Paul's conversation with the legendary drummer from The Beatles, Ringo Starr. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got an actual Beatle!
So many connections here, and that's not even including the fact that both Blur and The Beatles were signed to the Parlophone label in the UK! Say "Beetlebum" three times and you're there.

After last week's all-Memphis lineup (Episode #134) it's time for a little North Carolina love as we welcome Superchunk founders Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance to talk about their little indie label that could, Merge Records, as they celebrate 35 years with the big MERGE 35 festival in Chapel Hill, NC, July 24-27.
Meanwhile over in Raleigh, RSD co-founder Carrie Colliton speaks fondly of her neighbors and praises their eclectic roster.

This year, the genre-straddling Hawthorne, California rock band Redd Kross are celebrating 45 years as a band, and as such, founding brothers Jeff and Steve McDonald have been involved in a number of biographical projects including a memoir, Now You're One Of Us (with author Dan Epstein), and director Andrew Reich's career-spanning documentary, Born Innocent: The Redd Kross Story. But perhaps the most relevant to our interests here at the RSD Podcast is their brand new self-titled, 18 song double-album Redd Kross, (In the Red Records).
