On this episode of TheFemmeCast, I share with you all the intimate details about my very own, very real, and very uncomfortable, "Quarantined Christmas.”
Being far from the holiday season that I had planned after 2 years of lockdowns and craziness, it was probably the most healing experience of the year for me. And it would totally have to be, given the tsunami of emotions that it triggered within me.
And because I was able to recognize the healing power of this experience very early on in my quarantine (like first 5 minutes early), I took every step I could think of to make it as healing and as enjoyable as possible. Even if that meant binge watching Hallmark Christmas Movies between my plethora of crying fits.
So if you find yourself quarantined this holiday season, alone or with loved ones, or if you just find yourself alone, then I invite you to listen to this episode. Let me know if it resonates in the comments below. And of course, let me know what you’re doing to make the most of your “Quarantined Christmas.”

On this episode of TheFemmeCast, I chat with author Caroline Nadine Helsing about her new book, Unapologetic: Tales of the Original Party Crasher. The book is based on the life of her mother who recently passed away, and was written as a celebration of her mother and her incredible story. It is also a poignant diary of how Caroline moved through her own grief of losing her.
A strong, larger than life character who was overflowing with self-confidence, Caroline’s mother was the kind of woman who would regularly crash Hollywood parties and cozy up to some of its biggest celebrities. She met many of Hollywood's A-listers including Warren Beatty, Steve McQueen, Joan Crosby, Kirk Douglas, Candice Bergen, Paul Newman, Julie Andrews, John Huston, and Mr. & Mrs. Franklin Roosevelt Jr.
On today's show, Caroline recounts some of her favorite memories about her mother, including the night they crashed Dolly Parton’s restaurant in Hawaii. She also discusses the process of supporting her dad through his grief, while still grieving herself. This included having to clear out her mother’s room after she had passed away. A room that was filled with her most treasured possessions and dearest memories. But in the process, she learned so much more about her mother and the woman she was. As a result, she felt closer and more connected to her than ever before. She also became much closer with her dad and one of her mothers dearest friends in the process.
Caroline was inspired to write the book when she took a journey to New York City with her mother’s ashes, visiting some of her mother’s favorite places. It literally started as a simple practice of writing the little fragments of her mother’s story as she uncovered them along the way, as a way of helping herself move through her own grief, while at the same time putting together her mothers story as though it were pieces of a puzzle. Little did she know it would eventually become a book.

On this episode of TheFemmeCast, I share with you my personal experience as an empathic people pleaser, and how these two seemingly harmless characteristics have undoubtedly shaped my life and my relationships.
Being an empathic people pleaser is both a blessing and a curse, and trust me when I tell you that I’ve felt both sides of that coin. The blessings include a much deeper understanding of people and the ability to really tune into their emotional state and needs. This is such a blessing to your relationships, not to mention how good it feels for you, when the people around you are feeling good. Afterall, it obviously means that you’ve done something right, right?
But what happens when they’re not feeling good? What happens when they’re feeling hurt, sad, angry, frustrated and disappointed? What happens then?
What happens is that you can actually start to feel these emotions as your own and have no clue as to why you’re actually feeling them. Most of all, it can leave you endlessly trying to figure out exactly what it is that you’ve done wrong. Even when the emotions have absolutely nothing to do with you. And that is a really triggering space to be in.
In this episode I share how my empathic people pleasing tendencies were seriously triggered in my workplace recently. It’s been a pretty stressful time at work, and my colleagues and I have all been under a lot of pressure. As a result, all that stress and angst that I was picking up on made me feel like it was all somehow my fault. Or at least a good chunk of it anyway.
In the past, feelings like this would have led me to take some very self-destructive actions. Whether it was having an emotional meltdown, blowing up at someone, or quitting my job, or all of the above. But this time I resolved to take no action. At least not until that triggered feeling went away. This was so that I could respond appropriately and so that I wouldn’t bring any weird or funky energy into the situation.
Unexpectedly, the universe rewarded me for my patience in the form of a beautiful message from a friend and a really rewarding conversation with my boss. All of which confirmed how grossly I was misreading the situation. And I truly believe that it was being intentional about focusing on myself and sitting in the discomfort of nonaction, that made all the difference.

In this episode of TheFemmeCast, I walk you through some of the most powerful healing techniques that I’ve come to rely on in my life. These are the exact same techniques that I’ve turned to, when I myself was the one who needed healing.
But first, let me be clear. There are literally hundreds of healing modalities out there. All of which can easily be used to help you heal from all sorts of things. Whether it’s childhood trauma, past life trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, PTSD or any one of a thousand other things. But not every technique is right for every woman, at every time in her life. So it can sometimes be difficult to find something that works for you, where you are. That’s why in this episode, I lay out the five powerful healing modalities I used to heal and nurture myself, when I needed it most.
I was in a really dark period of depression, anxiety, suffering from PTSD and carrying some really heavy energy. And I knew I needed support in order to navigate through it all. That’s when I turned to these 5 incredible tools.
1. Intuitive childhood regression
2. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
3. Human Design
4. The Emotion Code
5. And of course last but not least, good old fashioned therapy.
The result was a truly life changing experience. And I am so grateful that I had the most amazing and powerful women to support me on this journey. Each a master in her own area of expertise. Working with each of these women has been absolutely magical and I’m so blessed to have them in my life. They have been the facilitators of some of my most profound healing, and have carried me through some of the darkest moments of my life. And for that, I am forever grateful.

In this episode of TheFemmeCast, I share my own personal experience of how easily and beautifully life unfolded for me when I finally learned to trust my universe, and to follow the little winks and nudges that it was sending me along the way.
Sometimes, we close ourselves off to the unexpected and the unpredictable. We get lost in our own idea of how things should be and how they should unfold. How many times have you been told that you need to put your all into whatever it is you want to succeed in? Unfortunately, no one ever tells you when it’s time to let go and move on to something else.
We tend to try too hard to make things work according to our plans. But sometimes the harder we try, the worse things get. That's when we know we're headed in the wrong direction. We have to learn how and when to let go, so that we can move towards something better.
Listen to this episode to hear more about how I experienced the winks from the universe, that helped me to do just that.

On this episode of TheFemmeCast, I’m giving myself full permission to be an unapologetic hot mess, because if I'm being completely honest...it’s almost that time of the month for me, and there's just no pretending I am anything but. In fact, I literally just unfolded myself from the blanket wrapped fetal position that I was strategically using to keep my cramps at bay.
But it's kind of got me thinking...as women we love to vent to each other about our periods, but not necessarily when we’re on our period. We'll go on and on about how tired, bloated, irritable, emotional and uncomfortable we feel when we're on it, without any shame or reservation whatsoever. But to actually make the bold proclamation to say "I'm on my period?" That is usually reserved for only closest and dearest members of our sacred feminine sisterhood.
The funny thing is that as women, this is probably one of the most powerful and magical times of the month for us. The problem is we try so hard to hide it and keep it under wraps, whilst we moan and groan our way through it, that we usually end up missing the opportunity to take advantage of it completely. And that’s because, there’s still a huge stigma around “being menstrual.” And I think it’s time that changed and that we allow ourselves the grace to be honest about how we’re feeling, when we’re feeling it.
Join me as I walk you through My Top 10 Dos and Don'ts For Feel Good Periods.
You know I am not one for rules, ever! But when it comes to trying to navigate my cycle, I follow these rules explicitly. And today, I get to share these rules with you, so that you can be inspired to be a little kinder to yourself, to be present with how you’re feeling, and to move through your cycle with much more ease. Most importantly, to give yourself “be menstrual” without any shame or guilt about it.
I’d love to know if any of this advice resonates with you, so please share your feedback with me! Also, if you have any tips or tricks that you use for your ‘feel better’ period, please get in touch and share your wisdom.

On this episode of TheFemmeCast, I chat with author Emma Burger about body image, addiction, and self-acceptance. For the record, self-acceptance is the art of accepting who you really are, as you are. Imperfections and all. Sadly, this is something that many of us, men and women, have never really been taught how to do. In her new book Spaghetti For Starving Girls, Emma takes you on a journey with a young woman who is struggling with just that.
A fictitious novel based loosely on some of Emma’s own personal experiences and anecdotes, Spaghetti For Starving Girls is about a young woman who after drunkenly sabotaging her plans to move to New York city for a lucrative job in investment banking, finds herself working at both a high-end Italian restaurant and the university hospital taking care of adolescent patients struggling with anorexia.
In this episode, we chat all about this inspiring book as well as our own personal struggles with body image, addiction and self acceptance.

On this episode of TheFemmeCast, I explain how constantly trying to think positively about everyone and everything, might be the very thing that’s keeping you stuck, unhealed and disempowered. I know this might sound unreal, considering the many theories and campaigns on positive thinking out there. But hear me out.

The Reinvention Queen is a podcast for women over 40 who are ready to figure out who they are now, what they actually want, and what comes next.
Sometimes life blows up for you.…
Either way, you're standing at the same crossroads:
Who am I now?
What do I want?
What does my next chapter look like?
I'm Maria, and I'm The Reinvention Queen. I explore midlife reinvention, starting over after 40, self-trust, confidence, career, relationships, purpose, identity, and the messy, beautiful process of coming back to yourself.
Through deeply personal stories, honest conversations, spiritual insight, and practical reinvention tools, I help women let go of outdated identities, reconnect with themselves, and consciously create a life that actually feels like theirs.
Because sometimes what looks like your life falling apart is actually an invitation to evolve.
And sometimes the woman you thought you were supposed to be is the very thing you're ready to leave behind.
If you're a woman over 40 who knows there has to be more, you're in the right place.
Your reinvention begins now.
