In today’s reading from Hosea 4:1–9:17, God brings a sweeping charge against Israel: no faithfulness, no steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land. Hosea exposes the people’s idolatry, corrupt priests, and misplaced trust in political alliances rather than the Lord. These warnings were not idle words—within a generation, in 723 B.C., Samaria, the capital of Israel, would fall just as Hosea foretold. The chapters call us to genuine repentance and to truly know the God who longs for our wholehearted return.
