Reflecting on their first podcast in May 2020, Dr. Jane discusses changes over five years, including her own life updates. The episode divides into two main parts: defining wisdom and how to develop it. Dr. Jane emphasizes that wisdom isn't frequently discussed in modern society due to fast-paced consumerism. She defines wisdom as the knowledge and judgment of the right thing to do in complex life situations and introduces the concept of a 'wise mind'—a balance between emotional and rational minds. Dr. Jane outlines five key ingredients for wisdom: the capacity to confront difficult parts of life (the abyss), observation and reflection, emotional regulation, humility, and empathy. ROTSB #40 ALEX SCOTT - The first Combat Room black belt

Alex has over 20 years experience as an international level athlete, representing NZ at both Commonwealth and World Championships in Fencing and then going on to represent NZ at multiple World Championships in BJJ and competing on professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu events like Boa Super 8.

He is a 3rd degree black belt under Vânderson Pires.

Alex has experienced the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu not only from a competitive sports aspect but also from a health and wellness perspective. Alex successfully recovered from a serious injury which marked the change in his path from fencing to Jiu-Jitsu. This taught Alex the importance of a daily physical and mental practice to develop a positive mindset in order to achieve your goals and enjoy life to it's fullest.

Alex also has a diploma in Exercise Science from Massey University and a Diploma in Adult Education from Te Wanaga o Aotearoa. He was manager for the Wellington branch of The New Zealand Sports Academy; teaching the Certificate in Sports Leadership course before moving to Sydney and opening Combat Room BJJ Sydney with his wife and business partner Anna Fitzgerald.

They decided to close the gym during the Covid lockdowns and are now working on a new project called Free Range BJJ.

In this third season of #ROTSB podcast I had an awesome conversation with John Pengelly. John holds 2X the world record of spearfishing and survive a shark attack. John took two special fish from the waters of French Polysnesia Fish (Wahoo and Dogtooth Tuna). John also shared his personal stories about his mindset and mental health. John is a BJJ practitioner at Combat Room Jiu Jitsu, Wellington.

Jimmy is world renowned for his judo expertise, coaching ability, and training methods.  

As a world renowned coach, his success at the 2012 & 2016 Olympic Games led to the victories of Kayla Harrison earning back-to-back gold medals and Travis Stevens earning a silver medal in 2016.
