In today's episode we dive deep into the ugly reality of racism and the role it plays in today's society and in our everyday lives. The reality we are all facing is that racism and hate crimes towards black people are on the up rise. The consistent police brutality, senseless mistreatment and injustices of black people all around the country are surfacing in the media almost everyday. In today's digital age, we have more access to the stories, videos, and media propaganda that are constantly in the news feed. Why are we constantly being fed this negative content? We are slowly being conditioned to seeing and hearing about the same stories of hate, injustices, and racism toward black people in America. Thus making it the norm and leaving many people hurt, frustrated, angry and hopeless.
It is one thing to be conscious and aware of the issue we face in this country, but another to allow it to control us mentally, physically and spiritually. For me personally, I found myself heart heavy, going through bouts of depression, and feeling anxiety around this because I care. I refuse to walk around bitter, anger, and feeling helpless. I know I'm not alone. As a spiritual being by nature this can take a toll on our psyche and play out in many areas of our lives, even how we interact with white people that we have to see or work with everyday. The racial tension in our society exists, and racial trauma is real. We can not suppress these feelings of trauma, anger and anxiety.
This episode breaks down the trendy term "stay woke" and what it really means beyond internet slang. Today I share a few tools to help us find balance in what we consume and ways to take care of ourselves to maintain inner peace. I also discuss ways we can channel anger and frustration into actions that will move the black culture toward positive change. #fortheculture
