The Rizzcast Podcast

In this episode, Justin discusses the From Patmos musical that he wrote the songs for and how the creative process went.

Tickets for the worldwide premiere are on sale now: www.frompatmosfilm.com

The original musical becomes a stage film featuring Michael Maher as the Apostle John — the man who knew Jesus best during His life on earth. The show features a series of flashbacks from the Island of Patmos detailing John’s transformation from a young man with a thunderous but unfocused passion to an unmovable, unshakable Apostle of single-minded devotion. It is through the memories of this one man that the future of all mankind is revealed. Justin Rizzo’s musical storytelling debut includes a moving score of 19 original songs and a script co-written by the powerhouse tandem of Alice Larson Scott and Kelsey White. Step into the tragedy, adventure, and passion of John's story and find your own story of the taming and refining of the human heart that happens only through relationship with the God who walked among us.

God famously called David “a man after His own heart” knowing full well every failure and mistake he would commit over the next sixty years, and in that moment, God set a precedent: He wasn’t seeking perfect men or women to follow Him. His primary goal was simply that they would be “after His own heart,” or in other words, that they would abide in His love and love Him in return.

Nothing can destroy team dynamics like ungodly speech. Sarcasm and coarse joking disrupt the authentic community by hindering honest, clear communication and discouraging true relationship and vulnerability. The closer we grow as a team, the freer we feel. This is a good thing, honestly. There’s something special about being able to let your guard down with people. It is freeing to be able to share openly without worrying about being judged. But sometimes with this freedom, come some challenges. The main one is becoming too casual and indiscrete with our speech.

The fact that you are given the ability to affect and influence entire rooms full of people on a weekly basis is both an honor but should also be a sobering reality. You are more than a song leader. You are a teacher.

Leading worship during COVID-19.

When the people, the lights, and everything that could distract you or give you a false sense of being filled is stripped away and it’s just you and your guitar, are you still filled with wonder when you sing?

There is nothing more holy or spiritual about worshipping in an empty room versus a room full of people. But when the room is empty, and it’s just you and God, it’s a lot easier to get in touch with the true state of your heart.
