Depression is a serious illness, but unlike cancer, for example, it's a disease that most people have trouble diagnosing and dealing with. Ronn talked with Elizabeth Bernstein, Wall Street Journal reporter, about her article "How Can You Help Someone Who is Depressed?" She pointed out the worst thing you can say to your friend or family member suffering from it is "snap out of it!" Instead, provide your presence and your acceptance. Don't make it your job to "fix" them. The person does not want their family members or friends to suffer or to need to perform for them.  Ronn also referred to his wife Jan's tips for getting through this difficult season for some. Ronn talked with US Congresswoman Jackie Speier. They first talked about the guarantee of Nancy Pelosi's return to Speaker and the generational concern amongst some Democrats that the leadership in Congress is too heavily weighted with older politicians. They then turned to the "me too!" bill she and conservative Alabama Republican Brian Byrne were able to get through the House. Most importantly, it removes taxpayers from having to pay fines for sexual misconduct and places that responsibility on the actual perpetrator. It's been three days since the Supreme Court's decision on Planned Parenthood was rendered and many people are still trying to figure out what it means for both the present and the future. We were joined by Catherine Glenn Foster, President of the legal group AUL (Americans United for Life.) Her interpretation was that those who are anti-choice are disappointed that the Court refused to hear the two cases at issue, but that there are similar cases pending in lower courts which may give the Supreme Court an opportunity to revisit the controversy. Today's top story was the sentence of three years imposed on Michael Cohen.  With that in mind, Ronn spoke with ABC Legal Analyst Royal Oakes. As Royal pointed out, theoretically if you total all the crimes he pleased guilty to, he could have gotten as much as 70 years; therefore 36 months for tax fraud, campaign finance violations and lying to the Senate was relatively mild. Oakes also pointed out that Cohen's sentence could actually be reduced from what he got today if he continues to cooperate and give valuable information to Robert Mueller.
