HEY FAM, guess what time it is? It might just be the time to find a career you LOVE! But don’t freak out, because we got all the help you need to land that perfect position! This week, I got to sit down with the fantastic Bill Leonard, founder of Leonard Workforce Solutions. If you can’t find a job and you don’t know why, Bill can tell you why. PLUS he has some advice on how to land that dream job! So, get your pen and paper, because you are going to want to take some notes. 

Bill and I chatted about so many things, including the job market and how hard it is for recent graduates to find a full-time job. Luckily, there’s hope… Bill! He shared three secrets that every job seeker should know. He also revealed what a lot of job seekers get wrong when applying for jobs… 

For starters, a lot of people still expect jobs to be remote after the pandemic, but Bill explains why that may not be true. Another bit of advice from Bill is that people should not feel discouraged in today’s job market. He wants everyone job hunting to know that it is okay and normal to need some help during this long and difficult process! Not many have that person to go to and say “Hey, I’m stuck and I need some help.” Well, Bill is happy to be that person for you and is ready to find the job that’s right for you.

That’s another thing that Bill stresses to me during our conversation: why it’s important to go into the job hunt/ interview with a completely open mind. If you score an interview for a job, find out why you should not go into the interview thinking “this is the perfect job for me, I need this!” As much as you need to be right for the job, the job also has to be right for YOU. And you may not know right away the right job… and Bill explains why that’s perfectly okay! 

Bill even has some helpful advice for those just looking to change careers; you don’t have to be right out of college to benefit from Bill’s expertise! Bill said that now more than ever before people are looking for a career change and reprioritizing their lives! It can happen at any stage of life! It’s important to always challenge yourself. Otherwise, life just becomes… well… boring! Bill spells out why that career development should ALWAYS be a goal, not just right after graduation.

Here is one more interesting suggestion Bill has: bring a company a hard copy of your resume and cover letter! If you want to stand apart from other candidates, the best way to do that is to show the company that you really care. Even if this isn’t your dream job, make the company feel like it is. The boss might be really impressed with your ambition and is more likely to remember you! Bill also told me why networking is the most important thing to do while job hunting. One interesting tip: if meeting in person isn’t an option, then mailing the hard copy of your resume and cover letter will also do the trick!
