The Saturday Matinée by The Next Reel Film Podcasts

Andy saw Justice League and says his feelings weren’t as hurt as he expected them to be. We talk about all that, plus the truly ridiculous promotional design of the film. We’ve got two killer trailers, and an equally brutal list of cold case movies that may — or may not — bend the rules beyond the standard. Plus: Andy has his own cold case to contend with.

Andy’s Trailer: A Quiet Place

Pete’s Trailer: Dead Pool 2

Chinatown

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Mystic River

Gorilla’s in the Mist

The Silence of the Lambs

The Drop

Andy saw Thor: Ragnarok and we both love it, so there. But what about those M-16s? Too much of a change from fantasy violence? Asgard’s in your heart, baby. Kevin Spacey is in way more movies than you ever knew, but he’s been facially replaced in all of them. We’ve got some terrific trailers, and hope for an actor by the name of Streep Hanks. Or maybe a wrestler. A wrestler might be better.

Thor: Ragnarok dominates the box office this weekend kicking off what might just be a return to holiday profit splendor. Andy and Steven haven’t seen it yet. But they’ve got great trailers, with a Red Band Rule, and a list of stamp movies that will surprise you… because it turns out there are good movies about stamps, and you didn’t know it.

Yeah, technology and schedule conspired to delay the Saturday Matinée this weekend. Hope you still have some dishes left to do. If it looks like Arizona, it was shot in New Mexico. Steve is trying to make his daughter patient zero in the Raw veterinary school controversy. Also, he is very unhappy. We’ve got a dash of Khan follow-up. Andy talks box office, Geostorm, Boo 2, and making it cheap.

Harvey Weinstein shot himself in the foot with an egomaniacal sexually predatory torpedo. Yes, we talk about the status of the Weinstein company. But it’s not all heavy, we promise. We talk Blade Runner 2049and how people should see it before it leaves the theater. Box office is a bit dry this week and even though It is still performing, Happy Death Dayis on track to lead the week. Steve wins the Red-Band-Rule lottery and we’ve got nine movies that showcase a rebooted character that’s worth seeing!

We’re doing our best to contain our Blade Runner 2049 excitement for our next Film Board conversation, so we’re distracting one another with a little matinée twin discussion, some fall TV chat, and today’s list: actors playing twins on screen!
