For our 50th Very Special Episode we look at a movie that helped build the friendship of your two host-companions while also acting as a cautionary tale not only for how not to adapt a video game to the silver screen but also how not to make a movie... the 1993 piece of cinematic history "Super Mario Bros."

Listen as we share our personal journeys with the film. Celebrate the performances of Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis, and Dennis Hopper. Then ultimately share how rewatching this film is helping us to temper our expectations for the new film featuring the Mario Bros. set to release in just under a week. 

In the end I think you'll understand why the charm of this film proved unresistible to both Devon and Sejohn and hopefully we can all have some fun along the way.

It seems lately that everybody has become a bit disillusioned with Pop Culture which is why this episode is partially dedicated to solving that mystery.

Additionally, Devon spent the bulk of his time with the fourth installments in the John Wick and Resident Evil franchises and is excited to share his thoughts and feelings on both. 

Before that though Sejohn attempts the insane task of doing an unboxing video without the video.

This week’s episode of The Say Report was recorded a bit later than usual and that plus the gut punch of Lance Reddick's passing has your host-companions the tiniest bit thrown off. 

Especially Devon, who perhaps ends up talking a bit TOO much about the shows he has been enjoying on NBC/Universal's streaming platform, but Sejohn is also right there to share his experience with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” while continually forgetting that “Shah-zam: Furry of the Gourds” is a film that not only exists but was released this very weekend

We kick off the episode proper with another thrilling segment of “Pop Goes My Heart” where Sejohn tries out new and exotic sodas, which in turn has Devon sharing some delayed feelings about some changes in the soda pop market and Sejohn having a realization about one of the major players in the Cola Wars.

Then we discuss a few pieces of media that have aged like a slice of processed cheese left on a hot school yard blacktop with the primary focus on the Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz romantic comedy(?) “What Happens in Vegas”

Finally we celebrate the video game news from the past week including potential new characters for Mario Kart 8’s DLC and Devon’s experience with the Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Chainsaw Demo.

Its a scattered pinball game of an episode and we hope that you enjoy… 

This week we inform the audience and ask for their consent as we dive back into Grim Guardians’ world of sexualizing underaged girls and how the creators of River City Girls treat their canonically eighteen year old characters. 

Then we take a glimpse into the modern world of Toys  and how Target and Wal-Mart have begun to target the lucrative demographic of adult collectors while remaining mired in the foibles of retail.

This week Devon tells the tale of his Big Gaming Weekend and the unexpected moments that occurred and ultimately had to be overcome for him to enjoy his time with Metroid Prime Remasted, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and Snow Bros. Nick and Tom Special. 

Meanwhile Sejohn was having a rather... wet... gaming experience of his own as he dove headfirst into the world of the Dead Space Remake and realized the true depths of the game hidden under the combat mechanics and the shine of gore and viscera.

All of this is also surrounded by a discussion about Education Television featuring Magic School Buses, the latest information revealed about a sequel to "I Am Legend", and the recent controversies surrounding Roald Dahl and Scott Adams.  

In this extremely special very special episode of The Say Report newly minted Galarian Pokemon Trainer Sejohn learns what its like to meet his heroes when he is joined by none other than the Galarian Pokemon Master herself Dayle Decker as a guest host to discuss all the nitty gritty details of the eighth generation of Pokemon games and hopefully pick up some tips and tricks to make his experience as painless as possible. 

The recording of this week’s episode started with some technical difficulties which inspired a discussion about the lack of innovation and coalescence in the podcasting space that somehow had your host-companions discussing the ways in which their undergraduate collegiate experiences desperately tried to compel them to shirk away from making bold strides in terms of creative progression.

Then we examine the modern societal landscape and how we internalized and/or ignored the lessons that should have been learned as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Finally on the lighter side Sejohn shares his experiences returning to the Pokemon games while Devon shares the plans for his BIG VIDEO GAME WEEKEND happening in just a few days time. 

This episode of the Say Report we finally celebrate the official thaw of the collective mental state of humanity that was ushered in by the latest Nintendo Direct. Making us optimistic about all of the things that the future of 2023 holds, while simultaneously playing the role of “foreboding harbinger” with the reveal that the new Zelda game will be the first Switch game sold at the $69.99 price point. 

Before that happens we take the time to finally have a down and dirty discussion about the advancements that have happened this year in the field of Artificial Intelligence and the nasty truths we as a specials will need to face if we hope to raise it to be better, faster, and stronger than the human race.
