This very special episode celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Groundhog Day” has your host-companions Devon Decker and Sejohn Serowik doing their very best to talk about anything other than the film. 

Honestly… who would blame them when the very themes present in the film already lend themselves to retrospection on the part of the viewer and is then complicated by all of the information we have learned about the complications that occurred while it was being filmed, the way its lead actor has behaved on the sets of other projects, and the fact that it led to to dissolution of one of Hollywood’s favorite teams of collaborators. 

Hopefully the fine line is managed to be walked and the episode succeeds in honoring the film, but also acknowledges where things could and should have been done better… but in the end that decision will be left up to you the listener

Devon has spent a majority of this week in 1997 with Rare’s Goldeneye game for N64 in its newly remastered version on Xbox Game Pass and is ready to dive into his thoughts and feelings about the game and also the extremely strange release that happened for subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack and how the games differ. 

Sejohn spent his time in 2183 as he re-explored “Mass Effect Legacy” but this time on his PC in an effort to catalogue how the experience differs between console and computer. He also started the mad decent into the deep dark world of mods for the game and his findings are truly startling. 

Then once both your host companions are back in 2023 we discuss the recently announced Academy Award Nominees, the current state of Hollywood and how it was represented eight years ago in the “Entourage” movie, and briefly touch on the season two premiere of “How I Met Your Father.“

Our first episode of “Seavon” Seven featuring new material starts off with “The Say Report Soda Bowl” where both of your  host companions try new and exotic beverage with hilarious outcomes that evolve into a deep exploration of the dark corners of marketing and consumerism. 

Then we try to brighten the mood by discuss sequels and effects of game play philosophy on the reception from the existing fan base. 

Finally we share the media we have been enjoy so far in 2023 and how it has made us think about the connections between popular culture and the world at large. 

Before kicking off Season Seven proper we are delivering a time capsule recorded on 12/1/2022 of us celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Barenaked Ladies first full studio album “Gordon”

We kick off the season six finale with a discussion about the changes to corporate culture we have noticed and share our own personal employment histories in an effort to examine how they shaped us with the benefits of hindsight. 

Then Devon finally watched the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and he and Sejohn discuss his feelings about the event and parse out just how much “DisneyDevon” actually enjoys the creative output from the House of Mouse. 

Finally Sejohn takes us on a journey through the importance of choice by sharing his experiences with the Mass Effect Legacy Edition promoting Devon is officially declare Infernax as his Game of the Year for 2022.

For our first episode of 2023 we take the time to address Devon’s final grievances with Verizon Fios and “Sports Story.” Which transitions nicely into Sejohn’s resolutions for the new year to live less beholden to the whims and practices of technology and to no longer support broken video games. 

Then to make good on the title we discuss the recent obsession with Nepotism, what it actually means, how it exists in more industries than just Hollywood, and what we as a population can do to combat it. 

For the last very special episode of 2022 the Say Reporters come together to celebrate the golden anniversary of a film that not only made them, but also helped to make and influence all of cinema over the past 50 years:  Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather”

This year to celebrate Ninj-ativity 3 we celebrate the 30th anniversary of meeting Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum in Jon Turteltaub’s “3 Ninjas.” 

We take a deep dive into the film, the exceedingly strange nature of its production and distribution, and how this film that the Boston Globe said “…Crosses Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Home Alone!” was able to find a place in not only the hearts and minds of the you host-companions but an entire generation. 

Bonus: In keeping with the theme of trimming eleven minutes from the film for release in America we recorded a full eleven-ish minutes of off-topic material celebrating the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception.” 

The long awaited and anticipated sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar has finally been released and the Say Reporters use the opportunity to share their feelings on the first film and explore how marketing and industry trends have influenced the narrative behind what is required financially for the film to be a success. 

All while discussing how they have been approaching and preparing for the holiday season. 

The holiday season bleeds into another episode of The Say Report as Devon and Sejohn share some holiday lore that they have been exposed to over the years including the Elf on a Shelf, the Halloween Fairy, and the big man himself Santa Claus. 

Then time is spent discussing the current state of cinema and your host companions feelings about James Cameron’s newest film “Avatar: The Way of Water” and how both reflect the economic state of the entertainment industry. 

That leads into a brief overview of the still evolving Smash World Tour situation culminating in a discussion about our contenders for game of the year.
