In this episode, Justin speaks with 2016 Chairman's Circle John Monash Scholar, Abigael Mawby about her upbringing in the Snowy Mountains, her accomplished career as an international lawyer, and her new found passion for environmental law.
Abigael is a lawyer who graduated from the University of Queensland with a combined Bachelor of Laws/Arts (First Class Honours). While at university, she completed a contract for the European Court of Human Rights, delivered international presentations on targeted financial sanctions, and was part of the Australian team to win the World Championship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot. Abigael also volunteered as a tutor for high school students from refugee backgrounds. Following graduation, Abigael completed a contract for the anti-corruption division of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Tehran, Iran, during the time that economic sanctions were lifted from the country. She formerly worked seasons as a ski instructor, and plays piano. With her John Monash Scholarship Abigael completed her LLM at Columbia Law School (named a James Kent Scholar), focusing in the areas of anti-corruption and international investment law. She practised as an Associate at White & Case in the area of investment treaty arbitration.
