The book of Esther is, unusually, the only book which does not explicitly mention God at all. We must however recognise that it doesn't mean that God isn't intimately at work in the circumstances of Esther and her people, the Hebrews at the time. An orphaned Jewish girl, living in a godless, misogynistic foreign power, who risks death for herself and all her people if she makes on wrong move is mightily used by God! Wow! This week we start a series on living a Godly life in an ungodly culture.

# This Week : The past …
For some it’s a rose-coloured bowl of cherries we don’t want to leave,
For others it is a bed of pain and sorrow we find it hard to let go of.
For the people of God, Haggai had a question about the “glory” of the past. He asks “does it not seem to you now as nothing?”
How we respond to the past can affect how we live in the present and, ultimately, how successful our future will become. Today Julian looks at the second message from Haggai and consider God’s encouragement and challenge to the people of God.

In BC 560 in the first year of his reign, Cyrus, King of Persia sends some of the exiles back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. In the second year of Darius some 40 years later, they still haven't started!
Haggai brings a message from God for Zerubbabel the civic leader and Joshua the high priest to spur them to start.
What can we learn today from a message given to the Jews some 2,500 years ago?
This week Julian starts to consider this question.

Wahoo! This week we have resumed “in person” worship. If you are within striking distance of Churchill in North Somerset, do get in touch and we can give you details of the “when” and the “where”.
So, the way we are producing the content for YouTube and FaceBook is changing slightly. The prayers and readings are pre-recorded by members of the Seed during the week (Those willing to sit in front of the camera) and the message is recorded at our Sunday meeting.

Join Julian this week as he starts to look at some of the more obscure Scriptures we have - The Minor Prophets
Even though they are considered to be a part of the word of God, with the possible exception of Numbers, Leviticus and Deuteronomy, the prophetic books (particularly the minor prophets) are probably the most neglected writings in Scripture.
Yet if you read them, you will notice that they seem to be stories of madmen ranting at people. Some of the things they get told by God to say and do are nuts!
What are we to make of that? How does what they say apply to us today? That is the question we will attempt to consider over the next few weeks.

Jairus fights through the crowds to get to Jesus because his daughter is near death. Almost as soon as Jesus starts to come, he stops. “Who touched me?” - the delay is fatal for Jairus, the news comes, his daughter is dead. A moment of inconvenience has turned into a tragedy.

This week we are looking at a nutcase! At lest that’s how many perceive him. John the Baptist lived in the wilderness, we are told that he wore clothes made of camel hair and his food was locusts and wild honey. We know that his parents were told that no alcoholic drink was to pass his lips.
His message was pretty simple really .. REPENT!
He was as Jesus says “the greatest of men and the least in heaven” (read Matthew 11:11)
Ultimately he was beheaded to fulfil a promise Herod made to his step-daughter.
Join us on Sunday as Julian considers what we can learn from his life.
