On this week's episode, J.Mix is joined by Destani Simone and Thérèse Green to unpack their thoughts on being unhitched and child-free black women! They discuss the pressures imposed on society and their peers to get married and have children and confront why they have not reached the next milestone. J.Mix expounds on her annoyances with "sheeple" who are only getting married and having kids to fulfill a conditioned expectation. Destani toys between wanting to get married out of love and/or out of financial stability. And Thérèse has a message for parents who claim to know everything about their children.
Other things discussed:
Why do folks cry at weddings, Societal pressures of getting married while black, Origins of marriage vs. Marriage in 2020, J.Mix's unresolved annoyance with Engagement/Wedding/Pregnacy/Birth announcements, Overpopulation, Parents who desire freedom from childrearing responsibilities, and so much more!

After concluding Episode 24's colorism discussion, J.Mix and Bats extend their conversation by conveniently diving into recapping information discussed in Episode 23: Nonmonogamy for DUMMIES. If this convo resonates with you, give it some stars on Apple Podcasts :)
Some of the topics discussed:
Why folks get married knowing their chances of divorce is 50/50, Will + Jada's "entanglement," Cheating as a passage to accepting nonmonogamy, Men having a harder time with getting cheated on than women, having sex without committing to a relationship, The trials of falling for someone that isn't your primary partner. Etc.
Disclaimer: We discuss some mature themes and sensitive subjects regarding marriage that may or may not sit well with people who are not open to understanding the non-monogamous perspective on relationships. Please understand that J.Mix and Bats come with nothing but love and want their self-awareness to be shared amongst listeners who are open-minded to understanding their perspective.

On this week's episode, J.Mix is joined by two sensational NOLA actors, Monica R. Harris, and Martin "Bats" Bradford to discuss the perils of colorism in America, more specifically in New Orleans, where it runs unapologetically rampant in the black community. (SIDE NOTE: Colorism IS, in fact, underlined in red because it is, apparently not considered a real word.) They also discuss "light skin privilege" and why it should be taken with the same severity as the BLM Movement's efforts to address the existence of white privilege. The trio, furthermore, touch on how light-skinded BIPOC individuals can utilize their strengths to elevate the voices of their melanin-rich brothas and sisters. AND they explore their individual privileges and strengths in combating colorism in the BIPOC community.

Somehow J.Mix got six months into this podcast without discussing this week's subject matter in detail. This week, J.Mix is joined by Dylan Trần to give a crash course into the beautiful monster that is Nonmonogamy. This episode is specifically catered to our TSAM friends who are curious about the lifestyle and want an organized layout into what it takes to successfully transition to multiple partnerships AND overcome the biggest monster that keeps most folks from dipping their toes into the nonmonogamy pool: JEALOUSY.
J.Mix + Dylan also address all of the common nonmonogamy terms that get incorrectly defined such as polyamory + polygamy, and open relationship + monogamish.
-
Lastly, the two spread love on their personal experiences being nonmonogamous with their respective sexual partners in true, open, transparent, nonmonogamous dialogue that they hope inspires and alleviates the misconceptions and negative feats inhibited about the lifestyle by society.

On this week's episode, J.Mix is joined by Cameron Ware and Lauren Turner as they discuss the ins and outs of being black theatre makers in the city of New Orleans at this moment in time. In solidarity with the black brothers and sisters that share their sentiments about the consistent grapple with predominately white institutions around the country, they all discuss their personal grievances with predominately white NOLA theatres such as Summer Lyric, JPAS, Southern Rep, and Rivertown.
-
-
The three also explore what has come to light on the Living Document of BIPOC Experiences in the NOLA Theatre. They discuss what needs to happen in BIPOC communities in order to move forward with AND without the assistance or support from PWIs.

In continuation with "Self-Accountability Month" J.Mix sits down remotely with roommates Julie Dietz and Megan Whittle to explore their histories with racial fetishization and how it compares and contrasts to their innate attraction to other races. On the contrary, all three compare their own encounters with folks non-consensually fetishizing their bodies in comparison to the model race that represents that specific fetish.
-
-
J.Mix also sheds light on how she, as a black woman, can tell if someone is fetishizing her versus if they are showing genuine attraction. The three ladies also discuss (IG) @alexand_erleon 's excellent post on Sexual Racism and Erika Hart's (IG) @ihartericka mind-boggling Facebook Status on the dangers of having a "preference" in dating.
-
-
Also discussed is their collective thoughts on playing the highly recommended dating game "Monster Match," branded as a dating website that exposes the explicit bias of algorithms. It scales down the plethora amounts of dating apps so that they’re easier to understand. Instead of millions of users, there’s just you, a real human being, and 100 imaginary monster profiles. As you swipe right (to like) and left (to dislike) profiles, they show you how the next profile you’ll see is affected. You’ll get to know exactly what profiles you get—and miss out on—over the course of a few dozen swipes. All without actually having to go on any dates, talk to people, or put yourself out there.

In honor of July aka. "Self-Accountability Month" J.Mix and Beau Autin are confronting their own implicit biases about their personal dating preferences and histories over dating apps and in their interpersonal relationships with others. In this episode, they compare and contrast the race and orientations of the communities they grew up amongst and how it has affected their current dating preferences. They also explore how this has negatively influenced the LGBTQ+ community in terms of acceptance of all spectrums of queerness.

On this episode, J.Mix is joined by Santa and Mrs. Claus aka. Jon Sparks and his beautiful wife, Maritza Dávila. Their love has transcended for over 40 years and they graciously join TSAM's community to give their wisdom on the many facets of what their marriage has taught them about themselves and the world around them. This episode is a continuation of the ongoing challenges of being in an interracial relationship during the black lives matter movement and throughout history. As you will hear in this episode, Jon and Maritza are still learning about each other all the while allowing enough space to expand their creative roots as independent artists. On this episode, J.Mix also gives shout-outs to the local NOLA organizations that she has been supporting during the movement. And she updates listeners on the fortunate developments of her conversation with her white male friend from the previous episode.
