God commands Samuel to anoint David as king of Israel, but Samuel fears for his life and so God tells him to go to Bethleem to make a sacrifice and anoint the son of Jesse while there.

Saul warns the Kinites to depart from living among the Amelakites who the Lord has sent Israel to slay. Because the Kinites were kind to Israel coming out of Egypt. After being clearly told to slay the Amalekites down to every man, child, woman and beast, Saul preserved the best and so lost his kingdom that day. Samuel prophesied the end of Saul's kingdom, that it would be torn in two.

During the day of a great battle, Saul issued a curse upon anyone who ate, and his son ate that day, and Saul had planned to put him to death, but the people prayed for him because Jonathan had saved Israel that day and thus saved his life.

After fighting a battle Saul looks for Samuel and then makes the sacrifice because he feared the people. Samuel informs Saul that because he violated the office of priest, he has lost his kingdom and God will take it and give it to a man after his own heart.

After defeating Naas the Ammonite, Samuel anoints Saul as king again. And in his old age he asks the people to bring any outstanding charges they have against him and he will pay his debts before he dies. And they absolve him of any debts he may have toward them, saying he has taken nothing and owes nothing.

The people of Jabis suggest a covenant with Naas the Ammanite who demands their right eyes and tells them he will make them a reproach. They send word to Saul who raises up 600,000 to war against Naas and delivers the people the next day when the sun is hot.

Samuel anoints Saul as king over Israel privately, God gives him a new heart and signs: men exulting Rachel's grave (the mother of his tribe). Saul meets three wise men who give him gifts. And later, his kingship is announced publicly.

Saul's father sent him out looking for their animals and after searching, they sought Samuel the prophet. Samuel was going to Bama to prepare the sacrifice and eat with the people and Saul intercepted him on the way. Samuel expected Saul and told him his animals were recovered and to eat dinner and the spend the night, and Samuel told Saul he was chosen by God to be king over Israel (privately).

Israel demanded that Samuel appoint a king over them. Samuel consults God who tells him to submit to the request because they are rejecting God, not Samuel. He warns them their king will oppress them, but they insisted anyway.

The men of Cariathiarim came and retrieved the ark of the covenant and Israel put away their strange gods, and God delivered them from the Philistines and their cities were restored.
