The Setup: discussions in magic & comedy

Note: we recorded this episode in advance, before the legend Johnny Thompson passed away. Our condolences to his family and friends.

We discuss whether Chris should get Tarbell, who should be grateful for performing and watching, Chris's relief on magicians not judging him in public, magicians and comedians calling each other out, magic libraries, and what makes a good cookbook. Recommended: "Miracles for Mortals" by Geoff Williams!

We talk about Dariel Fitzkee, Steve Jobs movies, Chung Ling Soo posters, outdated styles in magic, dating a magician, Chris's pitch for an act for someone else, John's upcoming tour with Shoot Ogawa, and diversity in comedy and magic (PS: we solve it).

We talk about a potential slot at Edinburgh Fringe for John's show, the distinction between being fooled and caring, pretending to go wrong, and the AMA award nominations.

Discussed: cards, cardistry, loops, disgraced comedians, should John run if audiences may or may not be chasing him?

Chris discusses getting debunked on TikTok, John makes Chris do "Improv the Bellhop", and then a lengthy discussion of Juan Tamariz' new book "The Magic Rainbow".

We talk about expectations, reactions, Magic Bar LA, simultaneous tricks, and ruining the Anniversary Waltz (but not really).

John and Chris discuss books, and jokes, and jumping over gaps.

In which we discuss Edinburgh, Fool Us, lectures, and swindling kids.

It depends on who gets cast for a certain show. Meanwhile, we discuss putting together an audition on video, Smash and Stab, more Banana Bandana talk, Castle audition thoughts, and Chris has a pitch for a new trick.

Second episode! Chris fumbles through an explanation of writing a joke, and John lists his least favorite jokes that magicians use. Sponsored by Diet Coke. Diet Coke: No Matter How Much You Drink, You Need More.
