  • EP 82 Who's In Your Room?

Both Sheri and Nancy have relocated to new cities, so today's episode about carefully curating the people in your life comes at a perfect time for each of them. This move is all about new dreams, new opportunities, and a chance to forge new relationships. They've invited Dr. Ivan Misner, founder of an extensive business networking organization called BNI, on the show. Ivan is not only a networking mastermind, he's one of the authors of a bestselling book called Who's In Your Room — an eye-opening reminder that the people we surround ourselves with impact the quality of our lives.

Ivan shares practical ways we can foster only those relationships that uplift and inspire us. He tells us how to say "no" without being a jerk, the real secret to balance, ways to live a life with margins, and how to become the bouncer (or as Sher and Nance like to put it, the "curator") of your own room.

    Takeaways:

    ● As Sheri settles into her new life in Napa, now it's Nancy's turn to face the moving vans and boxes. Moving can be an emotional tornado, so it's important to be kind to yourself and create time and space to find your footing.

    ● In midlife, deep friendship is less about proximity and ease and more about chemistry, trust and connection. Not everybody should have a front-row seat to your movie.

    ● The quality of your life depends on who is in your room, and you are your own bouncer or curator of your own experience.

    ● Get crystal clear on the values most important to you in a friendship. Start with your dealbreakers. Nancy's non-negotiable in friendship is meanness or cruelty. Sheri's dealbreaker is cheapness.

    ● Being intentional about your relationships in all areas is a way to have your own back, look out for yourself, and protect your energy.

    ● Create margins in your life. Taking a mental health day once a week or one hour out of the day can work wonders for the soul.

  • EP 81 You Turns with Lisa Oz

Lisa Oz is an extraordinary writer, producer and entrepreneur. She has also been married for more than 30 years to the guru of healthy living, Dr. Mehmet Oz, so she knows a thing or two about transformation, relationships, and living a balanced life.

Lisa and her best friend Jill Herzog are co-hosts of a fantastic podcast called You Turns, which explores the shifts and transformations in the middle of life. Lisa believes we all must be our own happiness coach. This week she talks to Sher and Nance about her own Pillar practices; challenges us all to really truly answer the question "If not now, when?"; and divulges why she won't let her husband get too "Dr. Ozzie" on her.

    Takeaways:

    ● Lisa Oz believes we all have to continually work on our pillars, and Sher and Nance couldn't agree more! The Pillar Life is a process of shoring up pillars, sometimes one at a time.

    ● Lisa lives a life of balance when it comes to joy and nutrition. She says food should nourish your body and delight your taste buds.

    ● Find what works for you personally within The Pillar Life practices. Lisa prefers prayer over meditation, but it's all about what feels good to you. Whatever way you choose to move, stretch, sit in stillness, and eat is determined by what gives you the most happiness and energy.

    ● Lisa and her best friend Jill worked together on The Good Life and wanted to continue their relationship and support each other through a period of a career change and empty-nesting. Their You-Turns podcast explores all aspects of middle of life transformations with compassion, wisdom and a sense of humor.

    ● The real secret to a great long-term marriage includes honesty and showing up open to learn and grow. Lisa's advice: Always be courting each other, and keep the flames of desire lit.

    ● Give what you seek. Not just in romantic relationships but in all your close and intimate connections.

  • EP 80 The Energy Codes with Dr. Sue Morter

Our energy within creates our experience on the outside. Quantum Field visionary and Master of Bioenergetic Medicine, Dr. Sue Morter joins Sher and Nance to show us how to uplift and uplevel to heal our bodies and live our best life. Dr. Sue's new book, The Energy Code is an entirely new approach to accessing our creative genius and elevating our consciousness. She shares the mind-blowing transformative experience that led her to witness people heal every aspect of their life when they applied a few easy practices, and explains why that person who makes you cringe at a party may actually be a gift to unleash your inner power. It's like Kegels for our chakras.

    Takeaways:

    ● We are powerful beings and when we clean up our internal energy and focus it to our greatest good, we align with the pulsating outer energy of the world and can co-create greatness.

    ● Dr. Sue draws from her experience as a doctor and health care practitioner for over 30 years. She experienced a transformative experience during meditation and seeks to share her joy and discovery with others.

    ● When we uplevel, we access our internal power to handle situations in a way that gives us strength and wisdom rather than overwhelm.

    ● The people and experience that rattle us the most are not to annoy us but to give us the gift of accessing our internal power.

    ● Quantum science shows us that our lives are a reflection of our own consciousness.

    ● Dr. Sue's energy work practices pull together our distorted perceptions and produce a greater sense of life and well being. They help us repurpose our energy to create positive experiences instead of a full spinout.

    ● Moving energy with your consciousness can start to change the power that you have inside your system.

    ● The "ego-protected personality" makes us feel like we are always missing something, and we try to fill it with outside achievement.

    ● Do you wake up in the middle of the night like Nancy? That is a gift. Your body is providing you the opportunity to uplevel your consciousness. Wow.

  • EP 79 Family Secrets with Dani Shapiro

She's back. Dani Shapiro is one of the show's favorite all-time guests, and she returns this week to talk about her whirlwind New York Times Bestselling book Inheritance, and her new podcast Family Secrets.

Family is tender territory with no playbook, and Dani's story is a shining example of the impact secrets have on families. She shares with Sher and Nance what it was like to have the rug of her identity pulled out underneath her, and what played out after that once her shocking discovery had settled around her family.

Also, the gals announce some fun new Pillar news including Pillar Pages and more from inside The Pillar Life Kitchen Show.

    Takeaways:

    ● Dani is on a 30-city book tour for Inheritance, and she feels a strong sense of purpose. She loves seeing this book resonate with her readers and finds this work opens up a dialogue for others about their family secrets.

    ● Dani learned from taking a DNA test that her beloved dad was not her biological father. This sent shockwaves to her system and began a huge journey that led to the inspiration for Inheritance.

    ● This story reflects that our world is constantly changing, and we are making new breakthroughs in science and DNA testing every year. The days of secrecy are coming to an end, and we are shifting towards transparency.

    ● We often create a story that resonates so much on our end that we bend reality and truly believe that particular truth.

    ● The nature of trauma is you can't recollect it as a story.

    ● Dani felt like an outsider for years and the pieces didn't add up as to why she always felt as though something was off. She knows now that just because something is not spoken, it doesn't mean it does not exist. We are constantly picking up on emergencies, both those we can see and those that are subconscious.

    ● Dani's story is one of liberation and freedom, in large part due to everyone involved acting with pure grace and kindness.

    ● Dani writes in order to understand what she is feeling, and it helps her become clear on her own internal connection.

    ● Dani wrote 5 novels and 4 memorials before Inheritance, and all of them were about the corrosive power of secrets. When she looked at it again, it was clear she was searching for a clue.

    ● Her podcast Family Secrets encourages us to release the shame and fear attached to our secrets, and speak our truth to the world.

    ● Listener Inbox: You are never too old to rev that engine. We hear from a listener who is 59, and certainly feelin' fine.
