The AIDS Memorial Quilt commemorates the lives of 2,700 Australians who died from AIDS. The handmade quilt helped loved ones grieve and activists emphasise the human cost of HIV/AIDS in a time of inaction and denial.
The fabric panels were handmade by friends, family and partners and joined together, the global quilt is the largest piece of folk art in the world.
Now a section of the South Australian quilt is on display as part of the exhibition Radical Textiles at the art Gallery of South Australia.
