  • ‌Speaking‌ ‌Up‌ ‌Versus‌ ‌Staying‌ ‌Silent‌ ‌when‌ ‌it‌ ‌Comes‌ ‌to‌ ‌Black‌ ‌Lives‌ ‌Matter‌

As a white woman from Iceland, I will never understand what it means to be black. Living in Europe my whole life, I've also not been exposed to racism the same way as someone living in the United States. But I choose to speak up nonetheless.

In this episode, I want to talk about speaking up versus staying silent when it comes to black lives matter, and why this concerns you, too.

"Racism is like a virus: It can be invisible until somebody gets killed."- Sigrun

What you will get out of this episode:

    • What is Black Lives Matter (6:22)
    • My message to those who say it isn't their problem (18:04)
    • My message to those who don't want to mix business with politics (20:22)
    • My message to those who want to speak up but are scared to say the wrong thing (22:20)

Black Lives Matter: Why You Should Speak Up

The level of systematic racism that exists in the United States is incomprehensible. Every citizen should be able to trust the government and the police, but in the United States, black people can trust neither.

The first step to solving any problem is to acknowledge that there is one. The United States has a serious problem with racism, but other countries aren't innocent either. The question is, do you speak up, or do you stay silent?

Yesterday I spoke to my group coaching and mastermind clients and some said they didn't want to mix business with politics. Some said that this is not their problem, and others said that it was affecting them deeply.

To those who say that this isn't their problem

I want you to imagine that this is World War II, and you knew that Jews are being killed in Germany. You live in the US and whatever you say or won't say wouldn't do any harm to you. Would you speak up or would you stay silent, knowing that Jews are being killed?

Listening to black people, you're either a racist or anti-racist. Which one are you?

To those who say they don't want to mix business and politics

It helps me to think of racism in the context of sexism. I get furious when I think about the discrimination women had to endure over centuries and are still experiencing. I decided at the age of 16 to make gender equality my mission, and therefore equality is one of my company values.

Your business isn't separate from you. Your values are your company values. When COVID-19 started, we saw some business owners step up and lead while others were quiet and pretended that it was business as usual.

Ask yourself this question: Do you respect someone who takes the lead, or someone who takes the backseat? Who are you going to buy from when all of this is over? The business owner who gave you extra resources and helped during the virus, or the entrepreneur who pretended everything is the same as before, and ignored your fears and worries?

By becoming a business owner, you've decided to lead, whether you like it or not. By building an online business you've decided to be visible. People see what you do, and what you don't do. Saying that you do everything behind the scenes is not visible for those who need to see it. It means you're not publicly taking a stand.

In an earlier episode, I interviewed Jenny Fanig, a coach with strong values like myself. This is her quote:

As coaches, we have the responsibility to use the platforms we have been given. We have a responsibility to speak about things that are wrong with this world. If you aren't willing to use your platform to take a stand, you don't deserve a platform.

To those who want to speak up but are scared to say the wrong thing:

You have a voice for a reason. Use it. Saying something is better than nothing. People will criticize you anyway so rather be criticized for speaking your truth. Be humble and willing to listen and learn. A simple recipe goes like this:

I hear you. I see you. I feel you. I'm with you. And I will do better.

What's happening right now has been a wake up call for so many, including myself. I realised that I can do more, and will do more. I can speak up. I can educate myself. I can listen and learn. And I can influence change. All of us can do something and something is better than nothing. Wherever you are in the world, whatever you do, just do your part. You can be a part of the problem or the solution. It's your choice.

I'm choosing to speak up, because silence is violence.

  • From Unemployable to a Selfmade Millionaire

It's going to be very hard for you to find a job. These were the words of my advisor when I went to the unemployment office after having been fired twice in a short period of time. I kept applying for positions I thought were a perfect fit but never got a reply. My hopes were down. I was also still feeling the pain from my chronic illness, and the thought of working a full-time job scared me.

When I read that the unemployment office helps people start their own business, I saw it as my chance. I quickly created a business plan for selling Icelandic design online and did a three week start up course where I learned all the basics of setting up a business in Switzerland. But when I ended the course, I started doubting my own idea.

Seven years have passed since then, and (spoiler!) I haven't gone on to build an Icelandic design trading empire. I have done something better: I found my passion, entered my zone of genius and become a top female business coach.

In this episode of the Sigrun Show, I share how I finally found my calling and started scaling my business to multiple seven figures, and the roadblocks and successes I experienced along the way. This is my story of how I went from unemployed to a selfmade millionaire.

With this episode, I want to inspire you to think bigger and take action. Make your dream come true.

Do you want more inspiration for building your online business? Find out how I got from zero to six figures in 12 months and avoid making any mistakes by reading the top 10 reasons why most online businesses fail.

How to Build an Online Business (and Scale It the Right Way)

I was making a good living doing one on one coaching, but I always knew that if I wanted to take my online business to the next level, I had to start scaling it. From my times as a CEO, I remembered that the only way to grow a business was to hire more people. I swore to myself that if I ever started my own business, I wouldn't want its growth to be dependent on the number of employees. I wanted the business itself to be scalable.

At the time, I had no idea that my own business would make multiple 7 figures one day. My goal had been to get to 6 figures and in March 2015, I reached that goal, exactly 12 months after my first sale. It was a huge milestone, but I knew that I had to take the next step. Constantly raising my prices or taking on more clients wasn't going to be sustainable. What I had to do is scale, and here is how I did it:

    1. Creating a Group Coaching Program

I had been thinking about group coaching for a while and got this idea that I wanted to prove that I can sell in July, in the middle of the summer, when most coaches feel it's not a good time to sell. I came up with an idea for a coaching program, created a sales page, did some seeding in my free Facebook group and ended up selling 6 spots, two times. It opened my eyes: I was able to scale!

    1. Selling Multiple Group Coaching Programs

I started selling multiple group coaching programs and made them longer, first 8 weeks and then 3 months, and called them masterminds. There was no need to create tons of content, because the groups were about helping people with whatever was going on in their business at the time. I focused on coaching in the moment.

    1. Make Groups Larger

I realised that I could have more than 6 people in my groups and launched a 9 month mastermind group with 10 people. But I wanted to go further. I thought about how much time I really spend per person and decided that I could launch a new group with 18 people and still offer the same value to them. These same people went on to stay with me for years.

At this point, my group programs were generating more revenue than my one on one coaching and I decided to only keep on a few selected people as my one on one clients.

    1. Introduce Levels

I started gearing up for a massive launch of my group coaching programs. My idea was to do multiple groups of 18 people on different levels, depending on where they were at in their businesses. The further along people were, the less people would be in the group so I could assure them enough time with me.

    1. Create a Signature Program

When I sold out 4 group coaching programs, I told my business coach very proudly that I just had my biggest launch ever. This is what he said to me: And you have nothing else to sell now? His words were a turning point for me, because they made me come up with the idea for SOMBA - Sigrun's Online MBA, a new one year program where I would teach women (and a few men) everything they need to know about online business. I've been running SOMBA for 3 years now, increased the price from $1000 to $3000 and my launches have grown from $50k to $575k.

My coach's comment was crucial for me. I thought I was scaling my business with group programs, but to really reach the next level, you have to have an online course or program where you can have as many people as you want in it, without having to spend extra resources. In 2017, I finally created that course which is now my signature program, and it's a fantastic feeling.

  • Launching in Challenging Times with Ron Reich

Launching is the beating heart of an online business and my absolute favourite thing. There is one person who loves launching just as much as me and has made a name for himself as a launch-expert: Ron Reich. When my friend Selena Soo connected us last year, I immediately knew that I had to bring Ron on the show to talk about our big shared passion.

Graduating from law school, Ron quickly knew that he didn't want to be a lawyer, got involved in online marketing and launched 50 of his own products, mainly in the relationship and dog training niches. In 2015, best-selling author Ryan Levesque asked him to be his Marketing Director, and he started to manage numerous multi million dollar marketing campaigns.

Ron had arrived in his zone of genius: He became known as the behind-the-scenes launch person for Selena Soo and Denise Duffield-Thomas. Ron eventually wanted to help everybody, not only the A-players, to have great launches and has been teaching everything about launching ever since.

In this episode of the Sigrun Show, Ron shares how he became a launch specialist, the mistakes he made and learned from, and what you have to look out for when you're launching during these challenging times.

Are you about to launch? This episode is full of valuable tips and advice on why launches fail and what you can do to really make a difference in your own launch.

"If you're just relying on automation, you're not going to be relevant."- Ron Reich

What you will get out of this episode:

    • What brought Ron to launching (3:52)
    • How Ron learned by doing (6:04)
    • Ron's favourite launch method (11:11)

3 Reasons Why Launches Fail (Plus 2 Tips on What Really Makes the Needle Spin)

Even though we are going through a recession, many businesses are still selling and it might even be a great opportunity for you to launch now. To prepare you for the pitfalls of launching, Ron reveals the 3 main reasons why launches fail:

    • People feel no desire to buy your product

This doesn't mean that the product you're selling is something people don't want. It might just need to be repackaged to fit their needs better - especially in a time like now. While the market has become more price sensitive, people are still buying if the offer is a no-brainer. It's about making an offer your audience can't resist, even if that means that you might have to sell your offer for a lower price than you usually would. Set out for your product to be relevant and in the moment.

    • What you're selling doesn't come across as new or different

Ron has watched people launch the exact same product year after year, and seen their launches getting progressively worse. It wasn't because there were suddenly less people in the market. "It was because they got bored. People like shiny objects, they believe that what they don't have is better than what they do have," Ron says. That's why you have to focus on being different. You can sell the same product each year, but in order to increase your launches, you need to make it come across as being different from the previous version: update it, give it a new message, or change its name.

    • You don't have a big enough audience to hit your revenue goals

It's a numbers game. Ron says that converting 2-5% of your audience to buy is considered a good result for every launch. If your conversion rate is above that? Great! However, the mistake people often make is setting a goal for their launch that is too high for the number of people in their audience. They achieve a conversion rate between 2-5% but are disappointed that their launch revenue isn't as high as they had hoped for, forgetting that if they're aiming to have a bigger launch, their audience needs to be bigger, too.

While the launch process in its essence remains the same, Ron says that marketing has become more amplified with the crisis. "What that means for you as an entrepreneur is that your marketing just has to be that much better."

    But how?

Firstly, be willing to make sales calls. "If you're willing to get on those calls yourself, that makes all the difference. Your conversions will go through the roof," Ron advises.

And secondly, add any kind of personal touches that you can think of. If someone has been opening your emails or visited your sales page multiple times throughout your launch, reach out. Send a personalized video or message. This is the highest level of attention you could possibly give someone who is on the fence, and the more you do it, the more often you will convert.

Now, I would love to hear from you. Did this interview with Ron help you with your launch planning, or do you have any launch stories you would like to share? I'm curious to hear them! You can follow and connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

    Selfmade Fund

I'm taking this opportunity to remind you of the Selfmade Fund. We created our own fund in March to support selfmade entrepreneurs in need who can't cover rent and food during these difficult times. We started the fund with our own $10k contribution and are adding 10% of our revenue over 90 days. So far, over $47k have been donated to the fund and we've paid out a total of $4915. The money has gone to help 13 women including a single mother who is giving online sewing classes to make ends meet and a physical therapist who decided to stop working to keep her clients safe from exposure. • Switching back to German after building an international health coaching business with Ines Festini

Do you think your business has to be in English because the market in your native language is too small? Because you want your business to be international or travel and work from anywhere?

This is what Ines Festini thought when she set up her health coaching business in English instead of her native German. Over the next 5 years, she built up a successful business. But there was always a little voice in her head, doubting if this was the right path for her, and she wondered why she had never dived into the German market.

In 2019, she finally made two big changes. She shifted her business to mindset mentoring and decided to do it all in German. "It was the right move," she says today, even though she had to step away from her initial business. "I wasn't going to be as successful as I envisioned myself to be in this area and I wasn't excited about it anymore. That was a sign for me that I had to change."

In this episode of the Sigrun Show, Ines shares how she managed to change the industry her business was in as well as the language successfully, what the biggest challenges were she encountered and the compromises she had to make.

If you are struggling to decide whether to set your business up in English or your native language, this episode can give you great insight.

"Looking back, I would definitely tell myself to start in German. It's easier to be successful in this way than trying to fish in the big sea." - Ines Festini

    • Two big decisions that brought Ines' business on a new course (7:43)

  • How to Diversify Your Income and Be Better Prepared for the Next Recession with Teri Ijeoma

Does trading in the stock market sound scary to you?

In difficult times diversifying your income can be very useful, and trading is the option Teri chose nine years ago.

She had been working in the education industry for 10 years, helping to train teachers, working behind the scenes and hiring people who would become trainers themselves, until she ended up being the assistant principal of an elementary school.

Because she was never satisfied with the low salary she received, she would always have side hustles doing things she enjoyed. That's when she decided to start investing in the stock market.

At first, Teri saw it as a way to supplement her income. But then, she realized that working as an assistant principal wasn't for her. She looked around for an exit strategy and decided to start trading full time.

"When you're starting to trade, it takes you 8 weeks to learn. But it takes a year to get consistent," Teri says, and that is exactly what she did. She became so successful that she could travel to wherever she wanted. Today, she teaches her investment strategies to people around the globe through online classes, while continuing to trade herself.

In this episode of the Sigrun Show, Teri shares her story and explains how she transformed her side hustle into her main source of income. She talks about the strategies she uses when choosing which companies to invest in, why now is the right time to start out and why women are more reluctant to go into trading.

If you are looking to diversify your income or were always curious about making money with the stock market yourself, this episode is a must.

"I started investing in the stock market to supplement my income. Then it became a bigger job with a bigger income, and I made it my full-time thing." - Teri Ijeoma

  • Stepping Up as a True Leader in Times of Crisis with Kirsten Stendevad

Do you see yourself as a leader?

We have definitely seen leaders emerge lately. Some heads of state are handling this crisis in a remarkable way, showing their human side. Others run around like headless chickens. What can you do as an entrepreneur to step up as a leader?

Kirsten Stendevad will tell you. I met her shortly before one of my SOMBA launches when one of my team members introduced us, and true to my nature of creating projects fast and messy, she became one of my affiliates just days before the launch.

Kirsten has spent half her life outside her native Denmark, reporting to Scandinavian media how to create businesses and lives that don't require the hard price a lot of people are paying. When she came back to Denmark, she started writing books and looked for role models for feminine power.

She was at the height of her career and about to launch her feminine leadership training internationally when she was hit by a tragedy.

She discovered that her six year old son had a tumor. The cancer turned out to be highly aggressive and not curable, and she lost her son.

Kirsten didn't give up because she wanted her other children to believe that there are happy endings. She decided to go up instead of down and looking back, says: "I had to continue - I'm an entrepreneur." She published her book "The Future is Feminine", which will come out in English in January 2021, and started specializing in 21st century leadership.

Today, Kirsten is a popular speaker and has published seven books. In this episode of the Sigrun Show, she shares what true leadership means and how going through a personal crisis has helped her prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.

If you want to know what you can do to align your business with your purpose and become a true leader, this episode is for you.

"We live in a transparent world. If you don't do what you say it will be very obvious. Eat your own medicine. That's how you become a lighthouse." - Kirsten Stendevad

What you will get out of this episode:

    • Why Kirsten decided to focus on feminine leadership
    • Kirsten's tragic experience losing a child
    • How Kirsten decided to go up instead of down
    • How Kirsten's book gave her a rope to hold on to
    • What leadership means to Kirsten
    • How going through a personal crisis has helped Kirsten to prepare for what is going on now
    • What entrepreneurs can do to align their business with their purpose and be leaders
    • Why leadership means being proactive and take responsibility
    • Kirsten's mantras for leadership
    • What Kirsten hopes people will learn from this crisis

  • Life & Business Opportunities During Covid-19

I've watched disaster movies, read about the Spanish flu and the Black Death, but never in a million years did I expect to experience a pandemic myself. Do you feel the same way?

It hit me on February 27th when I arrived in the US. I read about the first confirmed death in the United States and the first confirmed case in Iceland. It became clear to me: We are having a worldwide pandemic and everyone is going to be affected in one way or another.

My first reaction was to go to CVS and buy a small hand sanitizer bottle. Two days later I wanted to buy more bottles but hand sanitizer was sold out all over the United States. That's how fast the world changed - in just 2 days.

In this episode of the Sigrun Show, I share how I'm adjusting to the new normal, what decisions I took for my business in the last 7 weeks and how challenging times like these always bring new opportunities with them.

I also talk about how Iceland became the best case study for how to respond to a pandemic and how service-based online business is booming right now. Are you wondering what opportunities are out there for you during this crisis? Then this episode is for you.

"Sometimes not having a choice is the best choice." - Sigrun

What you will get out of this episode:

    • When it hit me that we are having a worldwide pandemic (2:36)
    • Why I started to feel uneasy about attending events (3:22)
    • How my business and private plans changed overnight (7:05)
    • Iceland's response to the Corona crisis (7:40)
    • Why there was no need for a full shut down in Iceland (8:42)
    • Why conspiracy theories can cause harm (9:54)
    • Why we have to get used to a new normal (11:11)
    • The global home office experiment (13:52)
    • How industries are forced to digitalise (14:47)
    • How service-based online businesses are booming right now (17:07)
    • My brand new program (18:19)
    • The decisions I have taken in my business in the last 7 weeks (23:18)

  • Zero to 8 Figures - The Faster Way To Fat Loss Story with Amanda Tress

When Amanda Tress created her virtual online bootcamp, she was one of the few people who went online without having had an offline fitness business first. Today, she teaches thousands of clients how to burn fat and live a healthier lifestyle online.

I met Amanda in Ali Brown's premier group and invited her as my guest this week because I was always inspired by her energy, her confidence and the way she was growing her business.

Even though she was working in digital marketing, Amanda says she always had a passion for fitness and nutrition and was working at the gym during her lunch breaks, on evenings and weekends when she wasn't in the office. When her oldest child was two years old, she was working 80 hours a week and started to feel guilty.

Amanda decided that she wanted to spend more time with her family and quit her marketing job. She also wanted to focus on her passion and realized that she could use her career expertise to create an online course combining nutrition and workouts. She convinced 11 clients to sign up and by the end of the program, they all thrived. "We were on to something and we needed to get the word out there," Amanda remembers. She turned her 11 clients into her affiliates and that's where her success began.

Today, Amanda is known for her program FASTer Way to Fat Loss. In the past 24 months, she went from making $1 million to $50 million in revenue.

In this episode of the Sigrun Show, she speaks about her mission to help women in the wellness business scale their businesses and explains her business model. If you ever wondered how you can set up a membership for your own business, this interview with Amanda is for you.

We discuss how Amanda cracked the code to be successful in the online world and looking back, what she would do differently today.

Whether you want to understand how you can grow your business through an affiliate network or simply need a good portion of confidence, this episode will help you.

"I'm going to eradicate poverty for women in wellness. I can't just sit around and watch colleagues scrape by." - Amanda Tress

  • How to Be Productive During this Crisis with Susie Moore

We are all either locked-up in our homes, need to pivot in order to keep our businesses going or cannot see our families and loved ones due to the Coronavirus. What was unthinkable only a month ago has become reality.

I invited Susie Moore as my guest on this week's episode because by overcoming obstacles when she was growing up, she now looks at that time as a gift and a training for resilience and being able to handle whatever comes up next - even a crisis like the one we are dealing with now.

Susie grew up surrounded by a dysfunctional family, her father suffered from an addiction and they lived off welfare. She left the UK and moved to New York where she started a career in advertising. But by the time she was 30, she felt this wasn't her life's work.

Susie says that the most important thing you can give to a reader or a viewer is your value and your message. Following her own advice, she started working in media without having any qualifications and ended up contributing to publications like Marie Claire and eventually Oprah magazine. Today, she works as a life coach and advice columnist.

On this episode of the Sigrun Show, she shares tips and methods that got her through difficult times and gave her confidence and a sense of steadiness. She talks about the current situation, how it affects people differently and what they can do, plus shares her personal story of how she made it in the media world.

If you want some great advice on what you can do to be productive or how you can contribute during this crisis, this interview with Susie is for you.

We also discuss her recently released book "Stop Checking Your Likes" in which she tells personal stories intended to give confidence to people with similar experiences, and writes about how the most powerful thing we have control of is having a self-directed mind.

Whether you want to learn what you can do to not just let this time pass by, or always wanted to stop worrying about what other people might think of you, this episode will help you.

"There will always be pain and effort, but if you can create a self-insured place within you that isn't shakeable, where you find your steadiness, you're going to be better prepared." - Susie Moore

What you will get out of this episode:

    • Susie's video about productivity (3:12)
    • The challenges Susie faced when she was growing up (4:20)
    • How Susie found her career path without having a qualification (6:21)
    • The idea behind Susie's book (8:35)

    • Susie's advice on writing down your tasks (22:07)
    • How to avoid having too high expectations (25:18)
    • The deeper purpose behind writing a book (26:39)

  • How to Build Your Personal Brand on LinkedIn with Dr. Natalia Wiechowski

Have you ever received one of those connection requests on LinkedIn from a person who obviously has no idea what your business is about?

    I have, many times.

Growing your connections on LinkedIn can really pay off, but your success lies in how you go about doing it. And Natalia Wiechowski, LinkedIn strategist, knows exactly how to avoid making mistakes.

I came across Natalia when I was scrolling through the podcast charts looking for an interesting guest, and her name popped up. I immediately knew she has valuable information to share with you.

Before Natalia became a LinkedIn strategist and personal branding expert, she was a doctor of philosophy and worked as a library manager in the United Arab Emirates, but soon moved into marketing. By the time she was 29, she realized that she was living an illusion. "I always thought I'll be happy in my next job, without understanding what happiness really means to me." She felt miserable, quit her job, went on a 9-month sabbatical and finally found her dream lifestyle and career.

When Natalia was looking for a professional platform through which she could bring traffic to her blog, she discovered LinkedIn. Today, she is known as the LinkedIn marketing unicorn, was invited by Forbes to join their coaches council and has become a LinkedIn learning author, creating online courses for LinkedIn.

So if you want to grow your audience on LinkedIn but don't know how, this interview with Natalia is for you.

On this episode of the Sigrun Show, she reveals the strategy behind growing your connections and the 5 steps to increase your following on LinkedIn, plus she talks about how she manages to run her business in two languages.

If you want to learn how to approach a person you want to connect with on LinkedIn using the right message, this episode will help you.

"I needed a platform where people have a brain, where they want to learn and listen to me, not only look at pictures. LinkedIn was it." - Natalia Wiechowski

    • Natalia's journey before she became a LinkedIn strategist and personal branding coach (6:14)
