Today is Part 2 of a series we began on our last episode “Utilizing the Enneagram to Understand Yourself and Others”. If you didn’t catch part 1 make sure to go back. Otherwise a lot of what we’re sharing today probably won’t make a whole lotta sense. If you are in ministry, you are in the people business. Whether you’re a pastor, leader, or volunteer, you need to learn to lead yourself first. It’s imperative (as a believer) you understand why you see the world the way you do and why others see the world the way they do. We’re talking about self-awareness and discernment. These qualities will make you a better leader. You have to work hard to reveal the blind spots in your own life. This will help you to better understand why people want to choke you sometimes! On the flip side, discernment helps you to be more understanding and gracious. Knowing how people are wired and why they say and do the things they do is imperative in leadership and in ministry. We have to learn to see the potential in those around us so we can uncover and develop others to their full potential in Christ and in their calling. This is going to be a good one. Let’s do this!

Understanding how you and others are wired is crucial when it comes to relationships. It’s true in friendships. It’s true in parenting. It’s true in marriage. It’s true in the workplace. Adaptability. One of the most necessary attributes needed in the heart of every pastor, church leader, volunteer, and church member. If you don’t have it you’re going to miss it. Miss what? The golden egg of Opportunity. If you don’t seize the opportunities around you, you can miss your moments of growth. How devastating. Growth requires constant adjustment, tweaking, trying new things, implementing new ideas which can all be categorized under one topic we talk a lot about and that is change.  So you’ve onboarded staff members, Team Leads, and volunteers. You’ve done the 1 on 1s, the trainings, the orientations. You’ve shared the Mission, vision, values, and what’s expected of each person for their particular positon, along with the organizational policies and protocols, and now you've let them loose to serve the house and live their purpose. You’d like to think they’ll just follow the plan with perfection until Jesus comes back and all you will have to do as is manage schedules, but the reality is this..no one laminates their training sheet and pins it to their chest when they're serving. And sometimes we’re all guilty of this.. we forget things and bad habits sneak up on us. So, how do we protect the vision? Conflict is inevitable - in leadership and in life. Why because both involve people and wherever there are people (plural) there conflict is inevitable. So how do you find healthy resolve in potentially unhealthy moments of conflict? Well there’s not a 100% guarantee here because you can’t control someone else’s decisions or response, but you sure can put the odds in your favor when it comes to a healthy resolve if you put in to practice what we're going to share with you today.
