  • Waiting for Superman, Being the Change, Ain't Nothing Funny about Doing the Right Thing

On this short video I talk about my obsession with Superman as a kid, and my love affair for his larger than life goodness and kindness, his unwavering altruism and adherence to doing the right thing. Honest, fair, decent, helpful, incorruptible, and always there to help make the world a better, safer place. As I got older, Batman sorta replaced Superman for a time as my favorite superhero as I grew into my teen years and discovered my "dark side" if you will. That is, until I got older and started seeing the chaos and evil in the world, and people giving up and giving in to defeat and tyranny so easily.

I began to see the true ugliness in the world, and the absolute necessity for more boy scouts and incorruptible "heroes" in the world like Superman and Captain America. We need more Super Men and Super Women! Here, I talk about how I've always wanted to be one of the good guys, one of the strong ones, and how I've always tried to emulate my inner boy scout, the helper, the soldier, the good guy, my inner Superman, to become the change the world so desperately needs. I'm far from perfect. But I have found a lot of clarity and goodness within, and try to harness that for the greater good, for a personal sense of moral clarity, purpose, and strength within.

The world isn't lost or evil but if often feels that way. it's just that, some people aren't right in the head, and it makes it seem that the world is much more terrible than it really is. I've grown to understand that change and good doesn't come from waiting idly by hoping for others to do good things, or waiting for Superman. It comes from personal strength, goodness, resolve, a sense of pride and purpose, and a personal sense of purity and wholesomeness within.

We can't keep waiting for a Superman that may never come. But we can certainly share Superman's inspiration and values and learn from his teachings. It's all about adhering to a sense of doing the right thing, always. That doesn't mean we won't falter or fail. It just means that we have to keep trying to create the world we need and deserve, and to keep on representing good values, and truth, justice, and the American (or humanistic) way!

  • After Party for Kamala's VP Pick, the American Dream, When Do We Get to Dare to Dream?

On this After Party special, I talk about the previous podcast episode, and continue my talk about regular people finding purpose and hope in this life. When is it finally a good time to stop being subjugated by the constant need for money coming in, and to start the groundwork to realizing your own goals and dreams? At the end of the day, I'm a disabled vet, and while I don't always look it, I get a lot of flack about "what I ought" to be doing with my life! (Um, mind your own effing business fella! lol )

I want to be an author, write cookbooks, be a voice artist and narrator, a podcaster, YouTuber, and activist. I want to use my skills and intellect for something other than just wasting away forever at just "some dumb job." When you look younger than you are, people make a lot of assumptions about you, and people have a lot of demands and judgements about what they think you should be doing. What they don't understand is that I've put in on this world. I worked, trained, and toiled for over thirty-five years. Nothing ever turned out quite like it promised. But instead of getting jaded or giving up, I realized I was going to have to go out and realize my life and my dreams myself, be damned the low quality thinkers and critics out there who have zero issues with mediocre jobs that exploit them. Small thinking gets you a small life, period.

I just turned in my disability paperwork today. It's an odd feeling. As a proud veteran and runner, it's hard to fathom how much "hard living" has ravaged my body and mind, and while I do alright, people aren't meant to forevermore waste away at the crippling grind of jobs that aren't taking care of you emotionally, financially, or any which way. If not at fifty, when is a good time to realize your innermost wants and needs? If not now, when is the right time to sacrifice a measly paycheck for the greater destiny of starting your own business and finding your innermost purpose and dreams?

Creative sensitive people suffer the most in this meat grinder society, especially when they keep trying but getting nowhere. I'm not failing myself and I'm not failing society, society sometimes fails us. I'm working harder than ever right now, realizing my dreams, because there's always a better way. Here, I talk about the trappings of society, the ignorance of society at large, finding yourself in a society that has written us off, and the importance of listening to your inner voice, not those critics and cynics out there. Because it's never too late to hit the reset button, and redirect our lives into a direction that makes sense for us. Anything else is just oppression.

  • Kamala's VP Pick, A New Hope, Normal Politics v Just Plain Weird

On this episode we talk about Kamala Harris' vice presidential pick, people's restored hope and excitement for the presidential race, and how we got here from normal politics to the politics of weird, and how the right has leaned into and doubled downed on their terrible policies and extremist rhetoric, rather than retooling and opting for policies that average working class could get behind. Instead, they act bizarre, push for aggressive and unusual policies, and somehow, Joe Biden was slated to be defeated by Trump, the worst and most extreme and lowdown candidate of our lifetime?! How is this even possible?! What does it say about undecided voters and our political literacy as a country?

It's a presidential election this year, and we don't always talk politics. But in unprecedented times, we think it's extremely in important that we all understand what's going on and what we should all be thinking about. Because we care about the mental health and good living for regular working class people, politics directly ties to our quality of life, and so, we feel it's especially important to be open and frank about the state of our sociopolitical landscape today. But we talk about things in a way that's different from the political pundits, because it's always coming from the perspective of how these things impact regular people living in these irregular times?

We put out a lot of content than just politics, and once things stabilize and no more big news drops, we will move on to other topics, so please bear with us! We always advocate for good regular folks because that's what we are and that's who we care about. We always keep it light and fun most of the time. So please enjoy, and remember we're not a political channel, we just do it when it's necessary. We can't wait to move on to other things we're excited to share with you! In them meantime, we try to make political talk easy to understand, funny, and accessible to nonpolitical and pollical types alike!

  • The Tough Guy Problem, Empaths are Real, Societal Conditioning to Toxic Behaviors

On this episode I go into greater detail about what I was saying on the last two episodes about bad jobs and our societal adherence to it, to the point of obedience, no matter how unsavory or toxic. Then talk about the problem with this tough guy mentality out there, and the difference between actually tough v faux tough, and the main difference between toughness v sensitivity. Finally, as a self described empath, I speak about what that means in real terms, and how to tell if you are empathic too. Then lastly, the sociopolitical implications of toughness, and how it fractures mental health and good cheer and balance in society.

  • After Party for So Much Effort So Little Reward

Getting older is hard, and trying to come out of your shell to become a podcaster, Youtuber, and a public figure is not easy. To be guided by your principles instead of just rolling over like most is hard. To be guided by your passion and determination, and to start a brand and platform celebrating and advocating for the working class and regular people is difficult. Regular folks are undervalued and underrepresented today. So, yesterday's podcast was ok, but I feel like I didn't quite explain myself well enough, and today I probably explained myself a little too well, because it takes time to explain a lifetime of experiences that shapes your belief system!

So, today, having found my words, I go into much greater detail about my thoughts on Capitalism, jobs, freedom, and finding comfort and security in a world that often doesn't advocate for regular people. Yesterday's podcast was well intentioned, I think it came off sincere and honest, but maybe it was just a little bit light on explanation. When you're trying to say complex big things, and do so in a way that's fun, likeable, and timely, it's a difficult thing to balance. So today, for those who like long, intellectual, substantive conversations about life and satisfying your soul, this is for you. For those who bore easily, maybe not so much.

Here at the Bryar Patch, we're trying to be advocates for regular working people in a way that's fun, down to earth, and easy to understand. But not a lot of people have been down in it out there in careerism for as long as I have, or have had as many setbacks and hardships as I have. I've seen capitalism's empty promises and ugly two-faced ways. At 50, I've grown much more disillusioned by capitalism because it doesn't advocate or work for regular people enough. But more than that, it tends to kill people's happiness and spirit, their sense of freedom and power over their own lives, and often just rewards the wrong behaviors and values.

Instead of this world enriching peoples lives and creating a more kind and balanced society, people have become lifelong subservient captors in a harsh system that oftentimes no longer helps shape our culture into our own image and good values. Here, I try to speak about life and our culture and society at length, so you can see that when we work together we can shape the kind of positive and effective society we want. When we do little to nothing, we end up with little to nothing, which is close to what we have now.

Garbage in garbage out, our society is only as awesome as we shape and nurture it to be. I'm not negative, I'm actually a quite positive person, just that, as a realist and dreamer, I understand deeply that we can produce better results and attitudes than this for regular working class people. Because at the end of the day, we are only as good as our values and our ability to live true to those values, instead of adhering to the harsh corporate robotic reality we have today.

  • A Return to Normalcy & Decency without Losing our Sense of Calm, Fun, or Humor!

On this beautiful warm peaceful Sunday afternoon here in Oregon, I wanted to break down what we're all about, and talk about the times we're in today, and how we might be able to strengthen kindness, community, and decency, if we just drop the attitudes and egos, and this pervasive desire to always be right all the time, always trying to own and dunk on each other, instead of helping one another and lifting each other up, or tending to our own needs. We should instead be finding our own comfort and clarity, seeking good mental and physical health, robust fitness, and more sustainable outcomes, despite the very real challenges, and despite the world's immaturity, game playing, and constant distractions.

Pound for pound, the working class and the working poor have a harder time maintaining good mental health and robust living than than higher income earners. This leads to poor coping mechanisms and bad mental health, greater instances of substance abuse, and more bad decision making. Therefore, it becomes instrumental that regular people, just like us, learn better ways of dealing with the very real struggles in these difficult times, while somehow preserving our sense of humor and a lasting sense of calm! Just because we're normal folks with regular jobs and less extravagant lives doesn't mean that we have to become a statistic and fall down into a rabbit hole of darkness and despair!

Regular working people have many unprecedented and surmounting challenges these days, but that doesn't mean we should allow our lives to unravel just because things have become more complex and challenging! Excellent mental health, good fitness, and sustainable living aren't just meant for the elite or the wealthy. Here, I talk about our sociopolitical culture that is exploiting the working class, and how all the stressors and division out there is bad just for us, and how we're all being sort of abandoned by our culture and society, having most people searching for answers and better clarity and solutions. It's not an impossibility, but we have to constantly reset and work on things, always keeping up on things until we find personal meaning and purpose in order to find our stride!

  • The Bryar Patch Podcast After-Party for Kamala In, Joe Out

On this super lighthearted after-party, Rebecca and I talk about the previous podcast episode, and the state of things in this year's presidential race. Sorry in advance, but we get super silly and occasionally a little loose lipped when it comes to some people out there anymore, but I think sometimes ya just got to get all that frustration out! Feeling a sense of renewed hope and lightness after Kamala Harris joins the race, we feel a restored sense of cautious optimism, and that, perhaps we won't sink into the grips of tyranny, oppression, and fascism afterall! if only people as a whole started caring and paying attention! Do some people even pay attention to anything important anymore?! Staying busy and ill-informed is exactly what they want us all to do, so please America, don't get too busy or bored to lose our democracy and rights! We have fun here, and we think it'll put a smile on your face as well.

  • Kamala in, Joe Out, Trumpaloons Lose Their Minds!

Yes I promised less politics, but this is huge news! So before we move on to bigger and better things, or at least more fun and positive things, we wanted to talk about what all this means, and ask the question; how do ordinary Americans who depend on average jobs and who are working class go for this right wing nonsense?! How do people get tricked into not seeing the wealth agendas and the hate in the right wing world? Or is that the point?! We'll talk about the significance of Joe Biden stepping down, Kamala Harris likely stepping up, and what the lunatic fringe are saying about it all!

At the end of the day, we don't get political to be divisive or to hurt anyone, but because, for the health, safety, and welfare of ordinary people, it matters! We must find a way to stay activists and advocates for the right values, while allowing ourselves still to be chill, to live a fun and normal life, and to enjoy this imperfect life the best that we can. Life is short, the world is filling up with weirdness, so finding balance, humor, and happiness is the key! Enjoy this funny but super important and hopefully enlightening episode.

  • Too Much Politics is Like Wading in a Hot Tub Full of Sewage!

We're reluctant political junkies! We love activism, analysis, and trying to educate and relate to people about socio-political matters, and to shape our world into a positive place that best represents our good values. But I think many people nowadays (not you guys) are just uneducated, naive, or tuned out to the the greater agendas going on out there in America's political landscape. So, in times where many people use politicas to argue, divide, and devalue others, we feel like it's become much more difficult as kind hearted teachers and lovers to get people to see what we're really all about, and what we're working towards.

So, when politics gets to be a little too much for us, we step back and enjoy all the other aspects to life that we love and enjoy, from hiking and the outdoors, to movies old and new, music, metal, and concerts, to our guilty pleasure in the paranormal! We love the MCU, Star Wars, Star Trek, and the list goes on and on! The last thing we want to do is put people off or inadvertently upset or repel our friends and family just because we feel strongly about social matters. We want to educate and empower, not nauseate!

So on this episode we talk about how too much politics and too much info can not only affect our mental health in a negative way, but it can spoil relationships when people don't understand when you're coming from a good place, and what to do about it when everything just starts feeling shitty, and your inner child is dying, and you just need your happiness, relaxation, and joy back! Serenity now!
