A Thomasville boy who is battling bone cancer was granted a wish to see the Georgia football team play its season opener by the Magic Moments Foundation. GROVE HILL — Former Clarke County High School football and basketball star Terris D. Martin was killed on Aug. 31 in a single-vehicle crash in Choctaw County, authorities said. Martin, 45, known as “Tech 9,” died in the crash at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Alabama Highway 156 near Pennington, according to Alabama State Troopers. Martin, a resident of Whatley, was driving a 2010 Cadillac Escalade when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. JACKSON — AISA Class AA Southern Academy rushed for 240 yards in a 54-0 win over Class AA Jackson Academy Friday night. The Eagles (0-2) were hampered by sloppy play, including a bad punt snap, three fumbles on special teams and a pick-six. Southern Academy sophomore running back Patrick Thomas had 66 yards and a touchdown on a 28-yard run and sophomore quarterback Drew Rogers added a pair of 7-yard TD runs.

The 2026 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest began accepting entries on Wednesday. The entry deadline is Oct. 31. The contest is a joint project between the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Alabama Tourism Department. McKinley was honored with a retirement celebration Thursday at the Thomasville Civic Center after a distinguished law career that spanned nearly five decades. McKinley, a native of Mount Vernon, has been an integral part of the legal landscape in Clarke County since 1975. GROVE HILL — Firefighters were called to Clarke County High School on Aug. 21 after smoke emanated from air vents in several classrooms. Students were promptly evacuated to the bleachers on the football field, and nobody was injured, Principal Chris Young said. “Kids and teachers did a great job,” Young said. “We got everyone out.
