Our guests this morning are Mark Kelegian and Thomas Bartsch from Randy’s Donuts.

Mark Kelegian is California attorney who retired in 2005 after gaining a national reputation as an expert representing victims of sexual assault. He has been called upon to assist victims throughout the country and was a frequent lecturer and supporter at national and local rape crisis events. In addition to owning several businesses throughout the country, Mark is the proprietor of the iconic Randy’s Donuts. 

Tom Bartsch joined Randy’s Donuts 7 months ago to lead the marketing efforts; launch the Los Angeles, Orange County, and Inland Empire stores; and handle franchising domestically and internationally. Tom has worked with a variety of companies, ranging from start-ups to global brands, including IHOP, Applebee’s, Dunkin Donuts, Baskin-Robbins, Burger King Corporation, and Nestle. Tom has developed and implemented game-changing initiatives to maximize sales and profits in single and multi-brand companies, both domestically and internationally. 

The new Randy’s Donuts is located at Apollo Landing in El Segundo and will open for business next Monday, September 10. This morning, we’re going to learn a little more about this world-famous pastry institution.

We have a couple of returning guests this morning, Dick Croxall and Ray Johnson from the Palos Verdes Concours D’Elegance.

Dick Croxall has worked with the Palos Verdes Concours for the last 16 years as a Class Manager and Exhibition Committee Chair.  He also volunteers at the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo and previously at the Petersen Automotive Museum.  He owns several collector cars and has run car events all over Southern California. Dick worked in the aerospace industry for over 45 years and ended his career in 2005 as vice president and Chief Engineer for Northrop Grumman Space. He currently spends his time consulting at The Aerospace Corporation, volunteering at automobile museums and car events, and playing with his collector cars.

Ray Johnson is the Chairman of the Palos Verdes Concours and has been a volunteer for the Concours for over fifteen years. In prior years, he was the Co-Chairman of the Exhibition Committee, which is responsible for obtaining and selecting the exhibition cars. Ray retired in 2015 from the Aerospace Corporation where he was Vice-President of Space Launch Operations.

This morning, our guests are going to tell us what attendees can expect at this year’s Concours taking place at Louis Zamperini Field on Sunday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Our guest this morning is Brian Dunne from Future Capital, Inc.

Brian was born and raised in the other “Manhattan,” the one in New York City, and his family moved to Santa Monica when he was 18 years old.  He graduated from Loyola Marymount University and worked for NBC Television securing the prizes that were given away on its daytime game shows including Hollywood Squares and Wheel of Fortune. He and his brother then opened their own commercial real estate company dealing with high-net-worth entities in and around Century City, finding investment opportunities for their clients. Over the next two decades, Brian has specialized in working with domestic and international clients and has extensive experience in real estate asset management including high-rise office buildings, investment sales and leasing, land assemblage, entitlements, financing and construction. 

This morning, we’re going to discuss the real estate market - where it’s been, where it’s going and what it’s doing.

Our guest this morning is David Estrada, owner of the new Monarch Ballroom.

David has been a competitive dancer for over 22 years, a ballroom dance instructor going on 18 years, and has trained in numerous styles from Latin, Ballroom, Rhythm and Smooth, to Tap, Jazz and ballet. He has done choreography for TV and large-scale performances, as well as local schools, studios, churches and theatres. David is a transplant to Southern California from Northern California and has now opened his own studio in the South Bay in hopes of bringing his love of dance to downtown Torrance, all over the South Bay and beyond!

The Monarch Ballroom will host a Grand Opening Party: A Night in Havana on Sunday, August 26. Doors open at 5:30 pm; A Cuban buffet will be served from 5:30 to 7 pm; salsa class at 6 pm; live salsa music from the Bobby Cuba Band with open dancing from 7 to 10 pm, and professional performances by Tony Nunez and Oxana Kashkina at 8 pm.

If you can’t wait for the party, they’ll be offering trial classes for $1 every hour from 10 am to 3 pm.

Our guests this morning are Dean Schoppe and MaryAnn Borders from the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club.

Dean Schoppe is a resident of Manhattan Beach and has been a badminton club member his entire life.  He teaches at CSUDH part time and has been a member of every USA team and event (except the Olympic Games) in the sport of badminton. Dean is a certified para-Badminton Coach and coaching instructor for USAB and the para Olympic team for 2020.

Mary Ann Borders moved to Los Angeles from Pittsburgh in 1980 and became one of the first concierges in the city of Los Angeles. She spent 20 years as a concierge and 13 years as Director of Catering. In 2013 she was hired by the Zislis Group to develop their concierge program from which she created Dine Around LA.  4 years ago, Michael Zislis introduced Mary Ann to Manhattan Beach Badminton Club Junior Foundation to produce their annual fundraiser, Pub at the Club.

Our guest this morning is Steve Collins, Partner and President of Hermosa Cyclery.

Steve was born and raised in Redondo Beach, attended Redondo Union High School and attained a Degree in Business Finance and Marketing from California State Long Beach. He was a Hermosa Cyclery employee from 1979-1987, and has been a partner and president since 2002. Steve was awarded Business Man of the Year 2011 from the Hermosa Beach Rotary Club and Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year 2011. He has sat on the South Bay Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors since 2011 and the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix Board of Directors since 2016, in addition to being the spokesperson for established bike rental stores in the Beach Cities since 2017.

This morning we’re going to discuss the relatively new scooter issues local municipalities are dealing with and bike share programs.

Our guest this morning is Roseanney Liu, the best-selling author of You did WHAT now?!  and How to Survive Elementary School.

Her third book Badassery 101: Ten secrets to be the Confident Boss of Your Life will coming out later this week, shortly followed by a collaboration book, Mastering Your Inner Game and Phenomenal Women in September 2018. Besides 14 years of English language teaching experience to foreign students, she is also a speaker about self-confidence, goal crushing, and independent publishing. Roseanney is a board member of the Volunteer Center of the South Bay, a member of the LMU Alumni Association and South Bay Business Women's Association.  She speaks to millennials and associations on how to show up to pursue goals with method, resourcefulness, and passion.  An avid hiker and traveler, Roseanney lives in Redondo Beach with her family.
