Our guests this morning are Steve Carvel and Russ Lesser representing the Leadership Manhattan Beach  Program.

Steven Carvel is a Manhattan Beach based estate planning attorney that has worked in the community for over a dozen years handling estate planning needs. He was a member of the Leadership Manhattan Beach class of 2017 where he was the class project co-lead for the renovation of Manhattan Beach’s historic Santa Float which has been in operation since 1955.  He also served as the chairman of the Santa Float Committee for four years, where he managed the Float’s five special appearances and fifteen nights out touring the community.

Russ Lesser’s grandparents purchased a home in Manhattan Beach in 1917 and he and his wife live about 100 feet from the original family house. He attended Manhattan Beach schools and graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a degree in accounting.  Russ served in the U.S. Army as a first Lieutenant in the finance corps, then worked as a CPA in a Long Beach firm where he was a partner for 20 years before being elected managing partner.  In 1990, he left the firm to become president of Body Glove International.  When Body Glove was sold in 2016 he remained president of the parent company, Dive N’ Surf, Inc.

Our guests this morning are Chef Michael Shafer, Laurie Latham Brandt, members of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce.

Chef Shafer will host the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Summer Fest event for the second year running. Besides being the owner and chef of the Depot, Michael Shafer has raised millions of dollars for a wide variety of charities. He personally hosts two events a year, one for Pediatric Therapy Network and one for Scott Newman Center to support drug prevention through education. Each event raises over $100,000 a year.  In addition, 

Laurie Latham Brand is the owner of Red Car Brewery and Restaurant, Immediate Past Chair of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and sits on the Summer Fest Committee. She has been involved with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce for many years, and is also an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Torrance, volunteering her time for a variety of causes in the community.

So this morning, we’re going to get all the details on SummerFest taking place on Sunday, August 12 from 4 to 9 p.m. in front of the Depot Restaurant.

Our guest this morning is Manhattan Beach City Council Member Steve Napolitano.

Steve is a life-long resident of Manhattan Beach. He served as Senior Deputy to 4th District Supervisor Don Knabe and represented Supervisor Knabe throughout the South Bay and beyond, overseeing several County departments and special assignments addressing issues across the 4th District and LA County. Prior to working with Supervisor Knabe, Steve was the youngest person elected to the Manhattan Beach City Council in 1992 at the age of 26. He served as Mayor and Councilmember and was overwhelmingly reelected in 1997 and 2001 before being termed out in 2005. 

This morning, we’re going to discuss a variety of subjects including city priorities, Sepulveda vs PCH, the homeless challenge, short-term rentals, city development, the pension tsunami, and some small stuff such as how many emails per day he receives as a council member, threats and more. It will be an interesting and informative hour!

This morning, we’ll be speaking with the team behind the new movie Senior Entourage.

Our guests are Producers Lynn Tang and David Lockhart, Director Brian Connors and a little later on, one of the stars of the movie, actor Ed Asner, will be joining us.

Senior Entourage features Edward Asner, Mark Rydell, Helen Reddy, Marion Ross and Charles Robinson and some of the scenes were filmed right here in the South Bay along the Palos Verdes coastline.

There will be a FREE screening of the film on Saturday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Library, and after the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to meet some of them in person and learn what these Hollywood Icons are up to today.

Our guests this morning are Amanda Bernhardt and Lauren Meshkin from Manhattan Beach Food Tour.

Lauren loves travel and food so much that she decided to make a career out of it in 2013. She first became a travel writer and social media manager for her own popular Los Angeles-based blog. Now she also works for other luxury travel websites, managing blog posts and social media.  She has lived abroad in both London and Madrid, and is always planning her next adventure. After experiencing more than 20 food tours around the world, she knew that she needed to create a similar culinary experience in her own neighborhood. 

Amanda has a passion for anything travel-related. She graduated from Chapman University after studying abroad in London and immediately began working in the travel industry. She also worked for a group of restaurants and bars in Newport Beach and loved being a part of the food industry. In July 2016, she got married, left her job and went on a 3-month European honeymoon before moving to New Zealand. Recently she moved back to her hometown of Los Angeles, eager to bring her passion for travel, especially food tourism, to her own hometown. 

This morning we’re going to learn what Manhattan Beach Food Tours is all about and what they offer their clients.

Our guests this morning are Kristin Sweet-Pekarek and Robert Wynn from the Lunada Bay Homeowners Association.

Kristin Pekarek is the President of the Lunada Bay Home Owners Association in Palos Verdes Estates and is on the PTA at her sons’ elementary school.  Giving back to the community is near and dear to Kristin's heart as she is big believer in Marian Wright Edleman's quote - "Service is the rent we pay for living."  

Robert Wynne is the president and founder of Wynne Communications. He is a contributor to Forbes where he writes a column on public relations and has provided public relations counsel to many leading universities. Robert started Wynne Communications after serving as Director of Communications for USC’s Marshall School of Business.

This morning, we’re going to learn about the different events the LBHOA organizes for the community each year, specifically the Summer Concert Series held in Lunada Bay Park. This Sunday, July 22 from 5 to 7 pm, Hollywood U2, a U2 Tribute Band, will be playing and we all plan on being there!

Our guest this morning is local photographer, Kat Monk.

Well known in Los Angeles for her individual and family photography portraiture, Kat’s work also includes headshots of sports celebrities, and dynamic concert images of musicians, as well as corporate work for companies such as Skechers.

Her photography career, specializing in babies, children and families creating timeless fine art portraits, was launched.

A South Bay native, Kat resides in Manhattan Beach. She has four children, including local musician Slater Monk of the band Good Vibes, and is currently a contributor to South Bay magazine.

Kat has an exhibition at ShockBoxx Gallery in Hermosa Beach starting tonight, July 5 and running through July 8, and will be showing for the first time her exciting .25 ALT collection of alternative rock musician images, displaying mixed originals with photographs, and capturing the light, energy and movement of renowned musicians and bands such as Gwen Stefani, Chris Cornell, Mumford & Sons and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
