Our guest this morning is newly elected Manhattan Beach City Council Member, Richard Montgomery.

Richard is a past and current Manhattan Beach City Council Member, having served from 2005 to 2013. A 29 year resident of Manhattan Beach, Richard was born in Houston, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He served on the Independent Cities Association, was elected by its members to the Board of Directors in 2005 and elected President for 2010-2011. Richard was appointed to the National League of Cities Training Council in 2007 and has been reappointed every year. He is a member of the League of California Cities State Environmental Quality Policy Committee, was appointed to the El Camino Community College Foundation Board in 2007 and the ECC Bond Oversight Committee, in addition to chairing the successful Measure E Bond Campaign [$350 million] for El Camino Community College in 2012. He served on the Los Angeles County Tax Advisory Council in 2006 and was elected to the Salvation Army Board – South Bay Division in 2007.

This morning, we’re going to touch on several subjects including the economic vitality of the city, the Bite at the Beach event, Manhattan Beach's recent "A" award for cleanliness from Heal the Bay, the Vista del Mar traffic fiasco and other items of interest!

Our guests this morning are Chris Wolf, Dan Ashcraft and Ellenmary Michel from the first annual South Bay Festival of the Arts.

Chris Wolf is the Executive and Artistic Director for the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation and a regular contributor to this program. His background in the arts is as eclectic as they come. After putting on plays in his living room as a child, he was a performing magician by age 12. Christian has worked as a performer, writer, producer, director, presenter, arts administrator, acting teacher, graphic designer and marketing professional.

As Vice President of Worldwide Human Resources, Ellenmary Michel has spent the last 20 years administering Pelican’s global Compensation, Benefits, HRIS, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management and Employee Development programs, as well as several other key functions through three multi-million dollar corporate acquisitions.

Daniel Ashcraft is the CEO & Chief Design Officer for Ashcraft Design. The designer of JBL’s critically acclaimed Project Everest and Wisdom Audio’s LS4 loudspeakers, Daniel consults on product design and brand innovation. His distinctive minimalist design has assisted a range of international brands that include Harman Kardon, Gibson, Seagate, Cybex, Adidas, Nike, and Mitsubishi successfully launch over 1000 new products.

This morning, we’re going to learn what attendees can expect at the inaugural South Bay Festival of the Arts taking place on Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.

Our guests this morning are Mark Lipps, Brandon Oates from the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and musician Jack Tracy

Mark Lipps, President and CEO of the MB Chamber, is a 20+ year resident of Manhattan Beach, is a parent, dog and tortoise owner, homeowner and husband of Tammy Lipps, Chef/Owner of The Ripe Choice, a local catering business. Mark worked for 30 years in the TV industry and was an executive with Fox Broadcasting for 18 years.

Brandon Oates is the Director of Sponsorships for the Manhattan Beach Chamber. Before joining the Chamber, Brandon managed the development department for the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach where he continued a well-established annual fundraising program. He also served on the development team at the Pablove Foundation in Hollywood. In this capacity, Brandon dedicated his time to raising funds for a photography program focused on helping children living with rare forms of childhood cancer. Originally from Ohio, Brandon is no stranger to the Chamber world.

Jack Tracy, a former Senior Pastor at Christ Church in Denver, is a local musician. Since arriving from Denver in 2011, Jack is consistently booked to perform on stages throughout the South Bay including, The Portofino Hotel, Barney’s Beanery, HT Grill, Saint Rocke, Suzy’s Bar & Grill, Sloopy’s and OB’s among others.

This morning, we’ll get to meet the newest Chamber staff member and hear about a few upcoming Chamber events.

We have a returning guest this morning, Julie Coll, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the King Harbor Boating Foundation.

Starting in 1988, Julie spent 20 years helping Fortune 500 companies strategize and implement emerging network and internet technologies. After a personal tragedy, she retired to pursue volunteer opportunities that could utilize her corporate experience while allowing her to help others access and enjoy the ocean.

Julie also co-founded the King Harbor Sea Fair, a popular, local family event and over the years, has served on the board of directors for the King Harbor Youth Foundation and the King Harbor Yacht Club. She has held many leadership positions within King Harbor Yacht Club and founded the Women’s Race Fleet. Due to her deep love and respect for the ocean, Julie champions and mentors new boaters and encourages safe boating practices and marine conservation.

Julie actively races her Martin 242 while mentoring, educating and encouraging girls/women out on the water. As a fulltime volunteer for Waterfront Education, she is developing a talented educational team and building collaborative partnerships that are creating programs designed to inspire students while instilling them with a lifelong curiosity and love of the ocean.

She feels privileged that she gets to call Redondo Beach and King Harbor home.

SEA Lab and Waterfront Education will host the first annual Summer Solstice Beach Party fundraiser on Tuesday, June 20 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and this morning, we’re going to learn what attendees can expect.

Mark Lipps, the President and CEO of the Manhattan Beach Chamber, is a 20+ year resident of Manhattan Beach. He is a parent, dog and tortoise owner, homeowner and husband of Tammy Lipps, Chef/Owner of The Ripe Choice, a local catering business. Mark worked for 30 years in the TV industry and was an executive with Fox Broadcasting for 18 years. In addition to his professional life, Mark has been very involved in the community as a graduate of Leadership Manhattan, Community Police Academy and MBCERT; he is a member of MB Rotary and MB Chamber of Commerce; was appointed to a city commission (PPIC); was a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and has been active in many local volunteer activities. He has also written a popular local newsletter for the last fifteen years called HAPPY FRIDAY, NEIGHBORS.

Tamsin Green is the former head of PR for Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Los Angeles, and has also worked for advertising agencies Chiat Day and Ogilvy & Mather.  With an interest in non-profits, she has worked in the community with Big Sisters of Los Angeles, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and also headed up PR for the John Wayne Cancer Institute, working with doctors and children cancer survivors. A resident and fan of the South Bay community for 25 years, she is now the Director of Marketing for the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce.

This morning, we’re going to meet the new Chamber staff member and discuss the direction the Chamber will take going forward.

Our guest this morning is Jon Mesko of the Mesko Restaurant Group.

With a lifetime of restaurant experience and a myriad of successful businesses, Jon Mesko has brought the vision of Rock & Brews to life in the greater Los Angeles Area. Jon received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, and Operations from Davenport University in 1999. In 2007, he opened a clothing store in Manhattan Beach where he met restauranteur and hotelier Michael Zislis. After years of working across the street from each other, in August of 2012, they decided to partner, and Jon opened his first restaurant, Rock & Brews, in Redondo Beach. With the success of that first restaurant, Jon launched the Mesko Restaurant Group and opened his second Rock & Brews three years later in Buena Park. Since then Jon has opened two more restaurants, each more successful than the last.

Anyone that has ever been to Rock & Brews understands why the franchise is so popular. It’s the kind of family-friendly, beer garden that is so common in Germany, but with a very American rock & roll heart. So, this morning, we’re going to learn a bit more about our local Rock & Brews and the role it plays in the community.

Our guests this morning are Julia and Mark Mirkovich from Puttin’ On Productions, a non-profit, 501c-3 California organization whose mission it is to train and educate youth in all aspects of theater.

Founder and Executive Director, Julia Mirkovich was born in a small town in Iowa, and her passion for creative expression started at a very early age staging her older sisters to Michael Jackson songs and original stories in their basement. Trained at the Academy of Dance Arts, Julia also cultivated her talents in voice and theatre in high-school, college, and local community theatres. She studied at the Tracey Roberts Actors Studio, where she acquired bi-coastal representation and has danced, performed, and/ or choreographed for film, television and stage. 

Mark Mirkovich, Co-Founder and Director of Business Development, was born in Hollywood, CA the youngest of 12 children.  Mark, an accomplished singer and songwriter, spent many years working as a hired session vocalist for radio, TV, and voice-over work.  For the last 20 years, he has held several executive leadership roles in large business organizations, and in late 2015 left corporate America to help support POPs full time. 

This morning, we’re going to learn about Puttin’ On Productions, the programs they offer, and the productions they have scheduled.
