Our guest this morning is Marcie Klein, one of our local sport pilots, and owner of Klein Creative Media and Beach City Drones.

Since her graduation from University of California at San Diego in 1987 with a BS degree in communications, Marci Klein has dedicated her career to the reality TV genre. She is currently a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Producer's Guild of America. She's produced, directed and written for some of the most recognizable programs in syndication, cable and Network Television, including Celebrity Boxing, Elimidate, Dr. Phil, The Swan, The Insider and several others. One of Marci's talents is to tell stories and when interviewing non-professionals, she has a way of making the subject comfortable in front of the camera, which makes for a more gripping story. Marci has had numerous nominations and earned a Los Angeles Emmy Award for her work with the Blind Children's Center. She also received a Cable Ace Award for work with the Los Angeles Fire Department. Her early work aired at the "Women in Film" and "Mill Valley" Film Festivals. With over 20 years in the television field, Marci is now telling stories for real people. In addition, she recently became a sport pilot through Pacific Blue Air in order to operate her drones legally.

This morning, we’ll discuss the services Marcie provides and get an update on her flights around the South Bay.

Our guest this morning is Barry Hatchett, organizer of the Beach Shorts Film Fest.

The festival is all about having fun and sharing aloha. This film festival is for amateur short films 6 to 10 minutes long with surfing or beach lifestyles as the theme. Beach lifestyles cover a lot of ground and they’ve had all kinds of films submitted over the years including skateboarding, stand up paddle boarding, beach volleyball, sailing, BMX, animation and even a silent film. The films are as varied as the filmmakers who range in age from a 12 year old girl to a 65 year old grom. The film locations have taken audiences all over the world - up and down the California coast, Cabo San Lucas and Baja, mainland Mexico, Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji and even West Cornwall England.

Beach Shorts Film Fest is held at the Hermosa Beach Community Center Theater. So many surf films played there through the 60s and 70s and Barry wants to keep the Surf Film Night alive and well, and give amateurs a chance to have their films on the big screen.

Barry works in the television industry as a Set Dresser on the CBS show Criminal Minds, now in its twelfth season and has a wide range of experience working in TV and movies.

Barry moved here from Oklahoma in 1987 but his wife Tricia is a native. They live in El Segundo and love the ocean, surfing, diving and living at the beach. The film fest came from that love of the beach.

This morning, we’ll learn what audiences can expect at this year’s Beach Shorts Film Festival which takes place Saturday, August 20 at 7 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Community Center.

Our guests this morning are Cary Alpert and Greg Aden of South Bay Wheelmen and Board Members of the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix.

Cary Alpert served on the board of South Bay Wheelmen starting in 2001 and was president from 2008 to 2011. He raced in the Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix multiple times during the 2000s since moving back to Southern California from Texas in 1999. Cary worked for GTE/Verizon for 32 years, retiring in 2003, spending his entire career in Information Management/Technology. Cary is a native Angeleno, is married and has three children. He is proud to be working for the Grand Prix and would like to thank Chevron and Manhattan Beach for their incredible support in helping the race reach its 55th running this year.

Greg Aden has been a member of South Bay Wheelmen since 1995 and has been on the MBGP race committee since 1997. He is a USA Cycling Category A race official and this is his fourth year as the MBGP Race Director. Greg is a retired Western Division Director of Engineering and Operations for Cushman & Wakefield. He lives in Hermosa Beach, is married with two grown sons.

This morning, Cary and Greg will explain what attendees can expect at the Gran Prix this year, which will take place on Sunday, August 7 beginning at 7 a.m. at Live Oak Park in Manhattan Beach.
