Our guest this morning is Samantha Prins, Director of Outreach and Enrollment for Halstrom Academy in Manhattan Beach.
Samantha is a South Bay native who earned her teaching credential at Loyola Marymount. Her passion for education continued as she managed a local tutoring company, Study Hut Tutoring. She continued to pursue her career in education by receiving her M.Ed from Vanderbilt University in International Education Policy and Management. While in Nashville, Samantha worked as the Special Projects Manager for the Tennessee Department of Education. Upon her return to California, she fell in love with the one-on-one model Halstrom Academy offers to students. Samantha has been working at Halstrom Academy since 2015 and is dedicated to supporting students as they advance through their academic careers.
This morning, we’re going to learn about Halstrom Academy and the programs they offer.

Our guests this morning are Faisal Hashmi and Larry Halvorsen, two current Ambassadors for the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Faisal Hashmi is the branch manager at Farmers & Merchants Bank in Redondo Beach. This branch of opened in April 2015 and since then, Faisal and his team have been active members of the Redondo Beach community. He has 24 years of domestic and international banking experience and has worked and lived in the South Bay since 2003. Faisal considers it a privilege to be an ambassador for the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Larry Halvorsen is a Veteran of the US Navy and a resident of the South Bay since 1998. He’s been in the staffing industry for 18 years and is the franchise owner of the Torrance Express Employment Professionals office. Express has received Inavero’s ‘Best of Staffing’ Client Satisfaction award for six consecutive years and was recently named a Diamond Award winner. Express helps job seekers find work and helps businesses find great and productive employees. Larry works closely with local businesses to understand their workforce needs and strives to provide the most qualified candidates in commercial, administrative, and professional positions for short and long-term assignments. July 15, 2016 El Segundo Art Walk – Part 2
Our guests this morning are Holly Socrates, Jaromy Siporen and George Renfro - a few of the individuals responsible for the hottest event of the summer, the El Segundo Art Walk.
Holly Socrates is perhaps best known for her serene imagery and unusual combinations of media, such as charcoal and coffee, or paint and fibers. After six years of showing and selling her work in the South Bay and West Side, Holly decided it was time to open her own gallery. In November of 2014, the Holly Socrates Gallery opened their doors on Main Street in downtown El Segundo. Since opening her gallery, Holly fell in love with the small town charm and growing artistic culture that El Segundo has to offer.
Jaromy Siporen has been with Big Door since 2010. He heads the post production department, in addition to running the day to day operations of the multi-faceted company, including field productions, post production, as well as stage rentals and events.
George Renfro is a third generation South Bay local and a Co-Founder of the El Segundo Art Walk. He’s a designer that works in branding, digital and print and has donated, literally, thousands of hours of pro bono graphic design work for ESAW. He’s young, hip and kinda the face of a new El Segundo. He designed the cool logo, hats, tee shirts, posters, banners, postcards and maps for ESAW for free!!! Around town, he also designed Smoky Hollow Studios logo and the newly refurbished Lucy Jane Building.
This morning, we’re going to learn a bit more about next week’s El Segundo Art Walk which will take place on Thursday, July 21 in the Downtown and Sleepy Hollow districts.

Our guest this morning is Demi Stevens, proprietor of Ortega 120 and Hey 19.
As one of the most renowned mixologists in the hospitality industry, Demi is a force to be reckoned with. She has successfully created cocktail menus that utilize unique ingredients that complement her restaurant’s dynamic food menus.
Demi’s first personal restaurant endeavor, Ortega 120 located in Redondo Beach, currently houses the “Best Classic Margarita,” as determined by LA Weekly. Ortega 120 has also been honored with awards such as “Diner’s Choice Winner” “Best Dinner Dates on a Budget,” and “Top 10 Mexican Restaurants in Los Angeles.”
Her most recent venture, Hey 19 Public House, is a “rustic American” themed restaurant and bar featuring craft cocktails and new-American, organic conscious, comfort food. Hey 19 opened its doors in Torrance in late 2014 and was instantly named one of the “Best New Restaurants of 2014” by Easy Reader. Just last week, USA today named Hey 19’s Spicoli Burger one of the “10 Best Burgers in Los Angeles”!
With her “whiskey in a tea cup” attitude, mixology brilliance, the ability to understand both front and back house management of a restaurant, and dedicated guest and staff following, it is no wonder why every restaurant Demi touches turns to gold.

We have a couple of returning guests this morning, Chanel Garcia from FirstLight HomeCare of SouthBay and Laurie Glover from Silverado-Beach Cities.
Chanel Garcia is currently the Business Development Manager for FirstLight HomeCare of SouthBay. With 10 years of experience in health care, and a comprehensive background in non-medical in-home care, she is committed to helping adults of all ages stay safe and comfortable in and out of the home. As a marketer, networker, and care advocate for FirstLight, she is demonstrating this commitment by actively engaging the community with educational outreach.
Laurie Glover joined the Silverado-Beach Cities’ team with years of experience working with older adults and their families who are dealing with the life changing diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias. She began her career in the aging field by providing care to both of her grandparents as they faced terminal illnesses. After this experience, she began providing care to community members and attended college to become a nurse. Realizing her strengths lay in education and community outreach, Laurie transitioned into business development and has since become a speaker for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association; a member of the Keep-Safe Coalition; and a volunteer for hospice.
This morning, we’ll learn everything we need to know about the various Senior Services available right here in the South Bay.
